Our Island identity is shaped by the landscape, our south-facing côtils, the sea that surrounds us. From our iconic Jersey Royal potatoes to our world-famous Jersey cows to our stunning shellfish, Jersey is celebrated for its food.
Step back in time to find an Island covered in apple orchards when cider was our major export, explore the future of farming in an Island with a growing population, and discover some of our local specialities like the famous ‘merveille’ or Jersey wonder.
Our new exhibition will give you plenty of food for thought!
In celebration of the arrival of Spring, this is a great way to get more active, enjoy the lighter days, and get out and about with family and friends.
WHAT IS THE CHALLENGE?
Take your pick! All we encourage you to do is walk every day for 30 days between 1 – 30 April. But everyone is different so here are some ideas for how you can take on the challenge:
Walk a mile every day for 30 days.
Walk 10,000 steps every day for 30 days.
Challenge friends and family to see who can walk the most steps during the month.
Sign up as a team of 4 and challenge another team (think inter-office or inter-firm rivalry!) to see who can walk the most steps during the month. You could also choose a destination that you could aim to ‘walk’ to – for example, a team of 4 could cover 660 miles during the month (based on 10,000 steps a day) which would take them as far as Denmark or Spain! So where could you walk to?!
You can walk whenever you like – so whether it’s as the sun is rising to start the day off right, or when it’s setting to celebrate the end of the day, your commute to and from work, to collect shopping, walk the dog, in your lunch hour, or when the children are in bed – the timing is up to you and what fits in with your day!

It’s 1865 and Francois Nicolle, her husband, mother and children live at Hamptonne Farm as tenant farmers. It’s a hard life ensuring that they can make payments to the landlord and have enough to live on, especially as Mr Nicolle is not in the best of health with his nerves.
The children have to help on the farm and Francois tries her best to school them and teach them their letters and numbers when they are not busy with harvest or planting. But there is always the animals to take care of.
Francois says “I’m a country girl, having been born in the parish of St Mary, so I’m used to hard work. But with so many children to care for as well, the cooking and cleaning chores are relentless.”

Something strange and delightful has been happening at Hamptonne over the winter!
Do you believe in magic? A visit to Hamptonne and La Hougue Bie may just change your mind.
Something strange and delightful has been happening there over the winter. Les P’tits Faîtchieaux, or little folk, are back and they have been busy creating a new home. In fact, they have been so busy, we think there could be a whole village!
We hope the fairies will stay for some time and we’d like them to settle in properly before being visited by your little people, so take the opportunity to visit them from the end of January.
Forty talented photographers from Jersey and Guernsey have contributed to this wonderful exhibition, which is the first to take place in our new museum space at Hamptonne.
More than 200 images, printed on banners, capture the incredibly rich biodiversity we have in the Channel Islands – from birds, insects and mammals, to wildflowers, fungi and sea life, with a focus particularly upon Jersey.
Meet Rose Le Brun, the Bouonnefemme at Hamptonne, who will let you in on local secrets and village gossip
Rose’s predecessor, Old Maud, had been at Hamptonne for years, but she travelled to St Aubin to see family and never returned. Perhaps the plague got her – they had a lot of it down there.
Rose was born in the parish of St Lawrence in 1606 and lived in the Vingtaine du Coin Motier, where Hamptonne House stands, all her life. She serves as housekeeper for Jurat Laurens Hamptonne, who himself witnessed Rose lugging a large poutchie of apples up the hill, and thought her constitution would be fitting to take charge of his household.
Meet the Bouonnefemme at Hamptonne from Tuesday to Friday from 10am to 4pm (except first Friday of the month when the performance will be on a Saturday)

his 20-metre long replica Longhouse was built over two years by volunteers, with oversight from Ancient Technology expert Luke Winter. Since it was officially opened in 2019, volunteers have performed day-to-day maintenance tasks using authentic techniques and tools, and act as guides, demonstrators and interpreters to explain the project to visitors. They are also continually researching, experimenting and training to acquire more Stone Age skills to share, including basket-making and flintknapping.
Every Tuesday, a member of the volunteer team lights a fire in the Longhouse using authentic techniques. This adds warmth to the building but also stops any insect infestation in the traditional straw roof. During your visit, the volunteer will also talk about the traditional methods used and the lessons learned during the build.

I’m please to confirm that the free St Helier town walks will be returning again this year, with a change of day to Tuesdays, starting on 2 April and then every Tuesday until the end of October. As usual they begin and end at the town Hall , starting at 10:30 and lasting around 2 hours.
The walks are free and sponsored by the Parish of St Helier and each week a different JTGA ( Jersey Tourist Guides Association) guide will be covering a different aspect of the town, ranging from it’s from history to people via culture to the outright bizarre!
People can turn up on the day and there MAYBE space but there are restriction on numbers for some walks so it’d be sensible to book via eventbrite HERE or by emailing me at [email protected] or 07797 780868

Children will learn about local ray and shark species, and help gather scientific information for the Shark Trust’s national database on the species that we have in Jersey’s waters. (Real Easter Eggs are also up for grabs!). We will also do our bit for the environment by collecting beach litter along the way.
£3 for NTJ Members – children to be accompanied by an adult (please note that tickets are only required for children). Suitable for children aged 5 – 11 years.
All equipment will be provided, advice on clothing etc. will be sent prior to event start.

The world’s largest Celtic hoard was discovered in Jersey, this exhibition explores why people might have buried it there.
In 2012 the world’s largest Celtic hoard was discovered buried in a field in Jersey. This exhibition explores what might have led people to bury a hoard of 70,000 coins and jewellery in Jersey, 2000 years ago and looks closely at some of the items found within the hoard.
Explore the time when Roman armies marched through Europe, 2000 years ago, they left behind them a trail of death and destruction which almost wiped out the culture and civilization of the Celtic people who lived there. Using scientific and archaeological research we can learn more about the people that buried the hoard, about their lives and customs. Ground-breaking research can tell us more about the moment and the place the hoard was buried. It might even challenge some long-held ideas about why hoards were buried.
Meet Sir Walter at the Castle and he’ll tell you about his adventures at sea
Sir Walter Raleigh has been described as ‘great man of the Elizabethan age’, and ‘Jersey’s most distinguished Governor’, being poet, soldier, historian and explorer, among other things. He was a favourite of Elizabeth I and a ‘peacock’, always in the latest fashion with good looks and obvious charm. Raleigh was also responsible for the preservation of Mont Orgueil Castle from destruction at the time when Elizabeth Castle was being built.
This is your chance to meet Sir Walter in the Lower Ward as he takes you on a tour of the Castle as he recounts his adventures at sea as the most famous explorer of the Elizabethan Age.

Stand to attention for the Midday Parade and prepare yourself for the resounding bang of the signal gun
The Master Gunner will ensure that your backs are straight, your chins are high, and bellies are tucked-in as you stand to attention for the Midday Parade on the expanse of the Castle’s Parade Ground. Delight in the storytelling of the Gunner, who will enlighten you into the tales and mysteries of bygone times at the Castle, from the reign of Queen Elizabeth I to the Battle of Jersey in 1781. Then finally prepare yourself for the resounding bang of the signal gun and flintlock musket.
Meet the Master Gunner or Cadet Gunner at Elizabeth Castle on the following days:

We examine the evidence of the Island’s involvement in the transatlantic slave trade, including Jersey’s Lieutenant-Governor Sir George Carteret who was a founder member of the Royal Africa Company that traded in ivory, gold and enslaved people in the 17th century; Captain François Messervy of Jersey who was killed in 1722 during an uprising on board his slave ship off the coast of Africa; and Jersey trader Josué Mauger who in 1752 advertised enslaved people for sale in Nova Scotia, Canada, where his business was based.
This exhibition takes place in the Victorian House at Jersey Museum, with its impressive mahogany staircase, because new research has shown that the house was built partly on the profits of the transatlantic slave trade. ‘Trade Roots’ explores Jersey’s historic links to slavery, from Islanders who owned mahogany plantations overseas and traded in slave-produced goods, to those who campaigned for the abolition of slavery.

We will be holding a session, removing the Purple Dew plant from the coastal strips of St. Ouens Bay.
The Purple Dew Plant is an alien invader! It is a non-native plant species that has found its way onto the coastal strips of St. Ouens bay. Due to the plant thriving in sandy environments, if not managed correctly, the plant would otherwise blanket the grass and sandy areas of the bay, suffocating the growth of Jersey’s rich and diverse native species that would normally thrive in this area. Purple Dew plant will also prevent some insects, such as solitary bees, from accessing their nesting sites.
So we really need your help to remove this ailen species from our coastline!
No tools are necessary and we will be hand-pulling the plant from the sandy ground, but please do bring your own gloves if possible.

WHAT IS THE CHALLENGE?
Take your pick! All we encourage you to do is walk every day for 30 days between 1 – 30 April. But everyone is different so here are some ideas for how you can take on the challenge:
Walk a mile every day for 30 days.
Walk 10,000 steps every day for 30 days.
Challenge friends and family to see who can walk the most steps during the month.
Sign up as a team of 4 and challenge another team (think inter-office or inter-firm rivalry!) to see who can walk the most steps during the month. You could also choose a destination that you could aim to ‘walk’ to – for example, a team of 4 could cover 660 miles during the month (based on 10,000 steps a day) which would take them as far as Denmark or Spain! So where could you walk to?!
You can walk whenever you like – so whether it’s as the sun is rising to start the day off right, or when it’s setting to celebrate the end of the day, your commute to and from work, to collect shopping, walk the dog, in your lunch hour, or when the children are in bed – the timing is up to you and what fits in with your day!

The world’s largest Celtic hoard was discovered in Jersey, this exhibition explores why people might have buried it there.
In 2012 the world’s largest Celtic hoard was discovered buried in a field in Jersey. This exhibition explores what might have led people to bury a hoard of 70,000 coins and jewellery in Jersey, 2000 years ago and looks closely at some of the items found within the hoard.
Explore the time when Roman armies marched through Europe, 2000 years ago, they left behind them a trail of death and destruction which almost wiped out the culture and civilization of the Celtic people who lived there. Using scientific and archaeological research we can learn more about the people that buried the hoard, about their lives and customs. Ground-breaking research can tell us more about the moment and the place the hoard was buried. It might even challenge some long-held ideas about why hoards were buried.
Meet Sir Walter at the Castle and he’ll tell you about his adventures at sea
Sir Walter Raleigh has been described as ‘great man of the Elizabethan age’, and ‘Jersey’s most distinguished Governor’, being poet, soldier, historian and explorer, among other things. He was a favourite of Elizabeth I and a ‘peacock’, always in the latest fashion with good looks and obvious charm. Raleigh was also responsible for the preservation of Mont Orgueil Castle from destruction at the time when Elizabeth Castle was being built.
This is your chance to meet Sir Walter in the Lower Ward as he takes you on a tour of the Castle as he recounts his adventures at sea as the most famous explorer of the Elizabethan Age.

Meet Rose Le Brun, the Bouonnefemme at Hamptonne, who will let you in on local secrets and village gossip
Rose’s predecessor, Old Maud, had been at Hamptonne for years, but she travelled to St Aubin to see family and never returned. Perhaps the plague got her – they had a lot of it down there.
Rose was born in the parish of St Lawrence in 1606 and lived in the Vingtaine du Coin Motier, where Hamptonne House stands, all her life. She serves as housekeeper for Jurat Laurens Hamptonne, who himself witnessed Rose lugging a large poutchie of apples up the hill, and thought her constitution would be fitting to take charge of his household.

Stand to attention for the Midday Parade and prepare yourself for the resounding bang of the signal gun
The Master Gunner will ensure that your backs are straight, your chins are high, and bellies are tucked-in as you stand to attention for the Midday Parade on the expanse of the Castle’s Parade Ground. Delight in the storytelling of the Gunner, who will enlighten you into the tales and mysteries of bygone times at the Castle, from the reign of Queen Elizabeth I to the Battle of Jersey in 1781. Then finally prepare yourself for the resounding bang of the signal gun and flintlock musket.
Meet the Master Gunner or Cadet Gunner at Elizabeth Castle on the following days:
Tuesday to Saturday from 10am to 4pm with some performances on Monday and Sunday.

We examine the evidence of the Island’s involvement in the transatlantic slave trade, including Jersey’s Lieutenant-Governor Sir George Carteret who was a founder member of the Royal Africa Company that traded in ivory, gold and enslaved people in the 17th century; Captain François Messervy of Jersey who was killed in 1722 during an uprising on board his slave ship off the coast of Africa; and Jersey trader Josué Mauger who in 1752 advertised enslaved people for sale in Nova Scotia, Canada, where his business was based.
This exhibition takes place in the Victorian House at Jersey Museum, with its impressive mahogany staircase, because new research has shown that the house was built partly on the profits of the transatlantic slave trade. ‘Trade Roots’ explores Jersey’s historic links to slavery, from Islanders who owned mahogany plantations overseas and traded in slave-produced goods, to those who campaigned for the abolition of slavery.

Something strange and delightful has been happening at Hamptonne over the winter!
Do you believe in magic? A visit to Hamptonne and La Hougue Bie may just change your mind.
Something strange and delightful has been happening there over the winter. Les P’tits Faîtchieaux, or little folk, are back and they have been busy creating a new home. In fact, they have been so busy, we think there could be a whole village!
We hope the fairies will stay for some time and we’d like them to settle in properly before being visited by your little people, so take the opportunity to visit them from the end of January.
Forty talented photographers from Jersey and Guernsey have contributed to this wonderful exhibition, which is the first to take place in our new museum space at Hamptonne.
More than 200 images, printed on banners, capture the incredibly rich biodiversity we have in the Channel Islands – from birds, insects and mammals, to wildflowers, fungi and sea life, with a focus particularly upon Jersey.
Join our education officer on an Easter Egg hunt with a difference.
Children will learn about local ray and shark species, and help gather scientific information for the Shark Trust’s national database on the species that we have in Jersey’s waters. (Real Easter Eggs are also up for grabs!). We will also do our bit for the environment by collecting beach litter along the way.
£3 for NTJ Members – children to be accompanied by an adult (please note that tickets are only required for children). Suitable for children aged 5 – 11 years.
All equipment will be provided, advice on clothing etc. will be sent prior to event start.

Rose’s predecessor, Old Maud, had been at Hamptonne for years, but she travelled to St Aubin to see family and never returned. Perhaps the plague got her – they had a lot of it down there.
Rose was born in the parish of St Lawrence in 1606 and lived in the Vingtaine du Coin Motier, where Hamptonne House stands, all her life. She serves as housekeeper for Jurat Laurens Hamptonne, who himself witnessed Rose lugging a large poutchie of apples up the hill, and thought her constitution would be fitting to take charge of his household.

Based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film, Shrek – The Musical is a Tony Award-winning magical adventure featuring all-new songs from Jeanine Tesori and a side-splitting book by David Lindsay-Abaire. Shrek brings all the beloved characters you know from the film to life on stage…and proves there’s more to the story than meets the ears!
Based on the Dreamworks Animation Motion Picture and the book by William Steig. Originally produced on Broadway by DreamWorks Theatricals and Neal Street Productions. This amateur production is presented by arrangement with Music Theatre International (Europe) All authorised performance materials are also supplied by MTI Europe.

WHAT IS THE CHALLENGE?
Take your pick! All we encourage you to do is walk every day for 30 days between 1 – 30 April. But everyone is different so here are some ideas for how you can take on the challenge:
Walk a mile every day for 30 days.
Walk 10,000 steps every day for 30 days.
Challenge friends and family to see who can walk the most steps during the month.
Sign up as a team of 4 and challenge another team (think inter-office or inter-firm rivalry!) to see who can walk the most steps during the month. You could also choose a destination that you could aim to ‘walk’ to – for example, a team of 4 could cover 660 miles during the month (based on 10,000 steps a day) which would take them as far as Denmark or Spain! So where could you walk to?!
You can walk whenever you like – so whether it’s as the sun is rising to start the day off right, or when it’s setting to celebrate the end of the day, your commute to and from work, to collect shopping, walk the dog, in your lunch hour, or when the children are in bed – the timing is up to you and what fits in with your day!

Something strange and delightful has been happening at Hamptonne over the winter!
Do you believe in magic? A visit to Hamptonne and La Hougue Bie may just change your mind.
Something strange and delightful has been happening there over the winter. Les P’tits Faîtchieaux, or little folk, are back and they have been busy creating a new home. In fact, they have been so busy, we think there could be a whole village!
We hope the fairies will stay for some time and we’d like them to settle in properly before being visited by your little people, so take the opportunity to visit them from the end of January.
Forty talented photographers from Jersey and Guernsey have contributed to this wonderful exhibition, which is the first to take place in our new museum space at Hamptonne.
More than 200 images, printed on banners, capture the incredibly rich biodiversity we have in the Channel Islands – from birds, insects and mammals, to wildflowers, fungi and sea life, with a focus particularly upon Jersey.
Join our education officer on an Easter Egg hunt with a difference.
Children will learn about local ray and shark species, and help gather scientific information for the Shark Trust’s national database on the species that we have in Jersey’s waters. (Real Easter Eggs are also up for grabs!). We will also do our bit for the environment by collecting beach litter along the way.
£3 for NTJ Members – children to be accompanied by an adult (please note that tickets are only required for children). Suitable for children aged 5 – 11 years.
All equipment will be provided, advice on clothing etc. will be sent prior to event start.

The world’s largest Celtic hoard was discovered in Jersey, this exhibition explores why people might have buried it there.
In 2012 the world’s largest Celtic hoard was discovered buried in a field in Jersey. This exhibition explores what might have led people to bury a hoard of 70,000 coins and jewellery in Jersey, 2000 years ago and looks closely at some of the items found within the hoard.
Explore the time when Roman armies marched through Europe, 2000 years ago, they left behind them a trail of death and destruction which almost wiped out the culture and civilization of the Celtic people who lived there. Using scientific and archaeological research we can learn more about the people that buried the hoard, about their lives and customs. Ground-breaking research can tell us more about the moment and the place the hoard was buried. It might even challenge some long-held ideas about why hoards were buried.
A chance to get behind the scenes and take a closer look at objects and artwork in our collection
Come and ‘Meet the Collections’ and see some of the fascinating items in our collections that are not usually on display at one of our sites.
With a different theme each month, our collections team will be selecting some of their favourite objects to show you and will be on hand to tell you about these objects, where they came from and what they can tell us about our Island’s history.
Stand to attention for the Midday Parade and prepare yourself for the resounding bang of the signal gun
The Master Gunner will ensure that your backs are straight, your chins are high, and bellies are tucked-in as you stand to attention for the Midday Parade on the expanse of the Castle’s Parade Ground. Delight in the storytelling of the Gunner, who will enlighten you into the tales and mysteries of bygone times at the Castle, from the reign of Queen Elizabeth I to the Battle of Jersey in 1781. Then finally prepare yourself for the resounding bang of the signal gun and flintlock musket.
Meet the Master Gunner or Cadet Gunner at Elizabeth Castle on the following days:
Tuesday to Saturday from 10am to 4pm with some performances on Monday and Sunday.

We examine the evidence of the Island’s involvement in the transatlantic slave trade, including Jersey’s Lieutenant-Governor Sir George Carteret who was a founder member of the Royal Africa Company that traded in ivory, gold and enslaved people in the 17th century; Captain François Messervy of Jersey who was killed in 1722 during an uprising on board his slave ship off the coast of Africa; and Jersey trader Josué Mauger who in 1752 advertised enslaved people for sale in Nova Scotia, Canada, where his business was based.
This exhibition takes place in the Victorian House at Jersey Museum, with its impressive mahogany staircase, because new research has shown that the house was built partly on the profits of the transatlantic slave trade. ‘Trade Roots’ explores Jersey’s historic links to slavery, from Islanders who owned mahogany plantations overseas and traded in slave-produced goods, to those who campaigned for the abolition of slavery.
Thought-provoking, and at times challenging, this exhibition exposes some uncomfortable new stories from Jersey’s past and examines the legacy and impact of transatlantic slavery on the Island’s community today.

Our Island identity is shaped by the landscape, our south-facing côtils, the sea that surrounds us. From our iconic Jersey Royal potatoes to our world-famous Jersey cows to our stunning shellfish, Jersey is celebrated for its food.
Step back in time to find an Island covered in apple orchards when cider was our major export, explore the future of farming in an Island with a growing population, and discover some of our local specialities like the famous ‘merveille’ or Jersey wonder.
Our new exhibition will give you plenty of food for thought!
Join Jersey War Tours and visit WW2 bunkers, which are not usually open to the public. JWT will show you how Jersey was made into an impregnable fortress and help you appreciate what the Third Reich was able to create with slave labour.

Join Jersey War Tours and visit WW2 bunkers, which are not usually open to the public. JWT will show you how Jersey was made into an impregnable fortress and help you appreciate what the Third Reich was able to create with slave labour.
The tour is also a perfect complement to understanding the history of the D-Day invasion, which took place less than 30 miles away.

Something strange and delightful has been happening there over the winter. Les P’tits Faîtchieaux, or little folk, are back and they have been busy creating a new home. In fact, they have been so busy, we think there could be a whole village!
We hope the fairies will stay for some time and we’d like them to settle in properly before being visited by your little people, so take the opportunity to visit them from the end of January.

Forty talented photographers from Jersey and Guernsey have contributed to this wonderful exhibition, which is the first to take place in our new museum space at Hamptonne.
More than 200 images, printed on banners, capture the incredibly rich biodiversity we have in the Channel Islands – from birds, insects and mammals, to wildflowers, fungi and sea life, with a focus particularly upon Jersey.
It’s 1865 and Francois Nicolle, her husband, mother and children live at Hamptonne Farm as tenant farmers. It’s a hard life ensuring that they can make payments to the landlord and have enough to live on, especially as Mr Nicolle is not in the best of health with his nerves.
The children have to help on the farm and Francois tries her best to school them and teach them their letters and numbers when they are not busy with harvest or planting. But there is always the animals to take care of.
Francois says “I’m a country girl, having been born in the parish of St Mary, so I’m used to hard work. But with so many children to care for as well, the cooking and cleaning chores are relentless.”

Meet the ‘Merry Monarch’ at the Third Gate and he’ll take you on a tour of his Castle and he’ll tell you some fascinating stories of his time in Jersey.

The world’s largest Celtic hoard was discovered in Jersey, this exhibition explores why people might have buried it there.
In 2012 the world’s largest Celtic hoard was discovered buried in a field in Jersey. This exhibition explores what might have led people to bury a hoard of 70,000 coins and jewellery in Jersey, 2000 years ago and looks closely at some of the items found within the hoard.
Explore the time when Roman armies marched through Europe, 2000 years ago, they left behind them a trail of death and destruction which almost wiped out the culture and civilization of the Celtic people who lived there. Using scientific and archaeological research we can learn more about the people that buried the hoard, about their lives and customs. Ground-breaking research can tell us more about the moment and the place the hoard was buried. It might even challenge some long-held ideas about why hoards were buried.
Meet Rose Le Brun, the Bouonnefemme at Hamptonne, who will let you in on local secrets and village gossip
Rose’s predecessor, Old Maud, had been at Hamptonne for years, but she travelled to St Aubin to see family and never returned. Perhaps the plague got her – they had a lot of it down there.
Rose was born in the parish of St Lawrence in 1606 and lived in the Vingtaine du Coin Motier, where Hamptonne House stands, all her life. She serves as housekeeper for Jurat Laurens Hamptonne, who himself witnessed Rose lugging a large poutchie of apples up the hill, and thought her constitution would be fitting to take charge of his household.

Stand to attention for the Midday Parade and prepare yourself for the resounding bang of the signal gun
The Master Gunner will ensure that your backs are straight, your chins are high, and bellies are tucked-in as you stand to attention for the Midday Parade on the expanse of the Castle’s Parade Ground. Delight in the storytelling of the Gunner, who will enlighten you into the tales and mysteries of bygone times at the Castle, from the reign of Queen Elizabeth I to the Battle of Jersey in 1781. Then finally prepare yourself for the resounding bang of the signal gun and flintlock musket.
Meet the Master Gunner or Cadet Gunner at Elizabeth Castle on the following days:
Tuesday to Saturday from 10am to 4pm with some performances on Monday and Sunday.

his 20-metre long replica Longhouse was built over two years by volunteers, with oversight from Ancient Technology expert Luke Winter. Since it was officially opened in 2019, volunteers have performed day-to-day maintenance tasks using authentic techniques and tools, and act as guides, demonstrators and interpreters to explain the project to visitors. They are also continually researching, experimenting and training to acquire more Stone Age skills to share, including basket-making and flintknapping.
Every Tuesday, a member of the volunteer team lights a fire in the Longhouse using authentic techniques. This adds warmth to the building but also stops any insect infestation in the traditional straw roof. During your visit, the volunteer will also talk about the traditional methods used and the lessons learned during the build.

We examine the evidence of the Island’s involvement in the transatlantic slave trade, including Jersey’s Lieutenant-Governor Sir George Carteret who was a founder member of the Royal Africa Company that traded in ivory, gold and enslaved people in the 17th century; Captain François Messervy of Jersey who was killed in 1722 during an uprising on board his slave ship off the coast of Africa; and Jersey trader Josué Mauger who in 1752 advertised enslaved people for sale in Nova Scotia, Canada, where his business was based.
This exhibition takes place in the Victorian House at Jersey Museum, with its impressive mahogany staircase, because new research has shown that the house was built partly on the profits of the transatlantic slave trade. ‘Trade Roots’ explores Jersey’s historic links to slavery, from Islanders who owned mahogany plantations overseas and traded in slave-produced goods, to those who campaigned for the abolition of slavery.
Thought-provoking, and at times challenging, this exhibition exposes some uncomfortable new stories from Jersey’s past and examines the legacy and impact of transatlantic slavery on the Island’s community today.

Jersey’s inhabitants got swept up in radical changes to their way of life initiated by events far from the island’s shores during this period.
St Helier in particular was effected as social, religious, political and economic standards and lifestyles evolved and not always peacefully.
Following a route designed to bring the period alive again your guide will draw your attention to important buildings and places and tell you of the innovative work of some famous businessmen; architects; builders; authors; politicians and lawyers of the time.
I’m please to confirm that the free St Helier town walks will be returning again this year, with a change of day to Tuesdays, starting on 2 April and then every Tuesday until the end of October. As usual they begin and end at the town Hall , starting at 10:30 and lasting around 2 hours.
The walks are free and sponsored by the Parish of St Helier and each week a different JTGA ( Jersey Tourist Guides Association) guide will be covering a different aspect of the town, ranging from it’s from history to people via culture to the outright bizarre!

Join our education officer on an Easter Egg hunt with a difference.
Children will learn about local ray and shark species, and help gather scientific information for the Shark Trust’s national database on the species that we have in Jersey’s waters. (Real Easter Eggs are also up for grabs!). We will also do our bit for the environment by collecting beach litter along the way.

Rose’s predecessor, Old Maud, had been at Hamptonne for years, but she travelled to St Aubin to see family and never returned. Perhaps the plague got her – they had a lot of it down there.
Rose was born in the parish of St Lawrence in 1606 and lived in the Vingtaine du Coin Motier, where Hamptonne House stands, all her life. She serves as housekeeper for Jurat Laurens Hamptonne, who himself witnessed Rose lugging a large poutchie of apples up the hill, and thought her constitution would be fitting to take charge of his household.

Stand to attention for the Midday Parade and prepare yourself for the resounding bang of the signal gun
The Master Gunner will ensure that your backs are straight, your chins are high, and bellies are tucked-in as you stand to attention for the Midday Parade on the expanse of the Castle’s Parade Ground. Delight in the storytelling of the Gunner, who will enlighten you into the tales and mysteries of bygone times at the Castle, from the reign of Queen Elizabeth I to the Battle of Jersey in 1781. Then finally prepare yourself for the resounding bang of the signal gun and flintlock musket.

his 20-metre long replica Longhouse was built over two years by volunteers, with oversight from Ancient Technology expert Luke Winter. Since it was officially opened in 2019, volunteers have performed day-to-day maintenance tasks using authentic techniques and tools, and act as guides, demonstrators and interpreters to explain the project to visitors. They are also continually researching, experimenting and training to acquire more Stone Age skills to share, including basket-making and flintknapping.
Every Tuesday, a member of the volunteer team lights a fire in the Longhouse using authentic techniques. This adds warmth to the building but also stops any insect infestation in the traditional straw roof. During your visit, the volunteer will also talk about the traditional methods used and the lessons learned during the build.

We examine the evidence of the Island’s involvement in the transatlantic slave trade, including Jersey’s Lieutenant-Governor Sir George Carteret who was a founder member of the Royal Africa Company that traded in ivory, gold and enslaved people in the 17th century; Captain François Messervy of Jersey who was killed in 1722 during an uprising on board his slave ship off the coast of Africa; and Jersey trader Josué Mauger who in 1752 advertised enslaved people for sale in Nova Scotia, Canada, where his business was based.
This exhibition takes place in the Victorian House at Jersey Museum, with its impressive mahogany staircase, because new research has shown that the house was built partly on the profits of the transatlantic slave trade. ‘Trade Roots’ explores Jersey’s historic links to slavery, from Islanders who owned mahogany plantations overseas and traded in slave-produced goods, to those who campaigned for the abolition of slavery.
Thought-provoking, and at times challenging, this exhibition exposes some uncomfortable new stories from Jersey’s past and examines the legacy and impact of transatlantic slavery on the Island’s community today.

Jersey’s inhabitants got swept up in radical changes to their way of life initiated by events far from the island’s shores during this period.
St Helier in particular was effected as social, religious, political and economic standards and lifestyles evolved and not always peacefully.
Following a route designed to bring the period alive again your guide will draw your attention to important buildings and places and tell you of the innovative work of some famous businessmen; architects; builders; authors; politicians and lawyers of the time.
I’m please to confirm that the free St Helier town walks will be returning again this year, with a change of day to Tuesdays, starting on 2 April and then every Tuesday until the end of October. As usual they begin and end at the town Hall , starting at 10:30 and lasting around 2 hours.
The walks are free and sponsored by the Parish of St Helier and each week a different JTGA ( Jersey Tourist Guides Association) guide will be covering a different aspect of the town, ranging from it’s from history to people via culture to the outright bizarre!

In celebration of the arrival of Spring, this is a great way to get more active, enjoy the lighter days, and get out and about with family and friends.
WHAT IS THE CHALLENGE?
Take your pick! All we encourage you to do is walk every day for 30 days between 1 – 30 April. But everyone is different so here are some ideas for how you can take on the challenge:
Walk a mile every day for 30 days.
Walk 10,000 steps every day for 30 days.
Challenge friends and family to see who can walk the most steps during the month.
Sign up as a team of 4 and challenge another team (think inter-office or inter-firm rivalry!) to see who can walk the most steps during the month. You could also choose a destination that you could aim to ‘walk’ to – for example, a team of 4 could cover 660 miles during the month (based on 10,000 steps a day) which would take them as far as Denmark or Spain! So where could you walk to?!
You can walk whenever you like – so whether it’s as the sun is rising to start the day off right, or when it’s setting to celebrate the end of the day, your commute to and from work, to collect shopping, walk the dog, in your lunch hour, or when the children are in bed – the timing is up to you and what fits in with your day!

Join Neil and Alli Singleton for a short early morning stroll along the coastal path below Pine Walk, taking in the sunrise over the French coast.
We will learn about the birdsong and wildflowers as we take the inland route back to the woods. This is an ideal walk to do before work, setting you up for the day!
Meeting point is the lower car park. Easy walking – good footpaths and country lanes.
Exploring the cliff paths and lanes around Sorel. The walk will start at the car park at Sorel and head inland towards the ‘Birds on the Edge’ aviary. From there we will follow small paths past the newly created woodland at Le Mourier Valley, then along small lanes to Devil’s Hole. If time permits, we will walk down to Devil’s Hole and back along the cliffs to Sorel. The walk is over rough ground and has some ups and downs!
Discover about the British and French commando raids in 1943 at Egypt and how these fitted in the commando raids that took place around the Channel Islands and on the continent and how the effects of the CI raids had major repercussions for the Allied forces and civilians as the war progressed. We will go through and pass NT property. This area is part of a prehistoric landscape where our ancestors left their mark in the form of megalithic structures and other things which are not quite as apparent. This is a strenuous walk requiring fitness and stamina over rough, slippery and narrow paths with frequent climbs and descents. Sturdy footwear and weather appropriate clothing are essential.

Duration: 2 – 2.5 hours/ Moderate Walking/ This circular walk will mainly follow the cliff paths, although most of the last half an hour is on public roads.

Sir Walter Raleigh has been described as ‘great man of the Elizabethan age’, and ‘Jersey’s most distinguished Governor’, being poet, soldier, historian and explorer, among other things. He was a favourite of Elizabeth I and a ‘peacock’, always in the latest fashion with good looks and obvious charm. Raleigh was also responsible for the preservation of Mont Orgueil Castle from destruction at the time when Elizabeth Castle was being built.
This is your chance to meet Sir Walter in the Lower Ward as he takes you on a tour of the Castle as he recounts his adventures at sea as the most famous explorer of the Elizabethan Age.

Join Bob Tompkins on a fascinating low water walk out to Seymour Tower. Learn about the marine biology and history along the route as you walk on the exposed seabed/reef. Bob will give an overview of an archaeological site that has been named Cluster 1 along the way. From there you will enter a track carved out of the reef by quarrymen in the 1700’s where you can still see examples of their work. Having exited the track in the middle area of the area known as ‘Oregon Gully’, the route then returns to the Refuge Tower and then Seymour Slip. Suitable footwear is required as this is a ‘wet walk’ where you will walk through puddles and gullies.
Starting and finishing at Longbeach enjoy a circular walk taking in the delightful rural lanes of Grouville and a walk along the beach and find out the fascinating history of this part of the Island. Please wear comfortable shoes that you don’t mind getting wet.

Come along on a walk around the rural parish of Trinity. The walk encompasses roads, mud tracks and half a dozen lesser-known Jersey National Trust places of interest. Commencing at Jardin d’Olivet, we will amble through country lanes, taking in a well-head and woodlands on our way to an inconveniently placed lavoir. Dating from 1834, we will pause to spare a thought for the poor tenants of Le Fief de L’Abbesse de Caen who would have struggle to bring their laundry to this public washing place. Emerging onto La Falaize we will be rewarded with spectacular coastal views across the Les Écréhous and beyond to Normandy.

Join Bob Tompkins on a fascinating low water walk out to Seymour Tower. Learn about the marine biology and history along the route as you walk on the exposed seabed/reef. Bob will give an overview of an archaeological site that has been named Cluster 1 along the way. From there you will enter a track carved out of the reef by quarrymen in the 1700’s where you can still see examples of their work. Having exited the track in the middle area of the area known as ‘Oregon Gully’, the route then returns to the Refuge Tower and then Seymour Slip. Suitable footwear is required as this is a ‘wet walk’ where you will walk through puddles and gullies.
Starting and finishing at Longbeach enjoy a circular walk taking in the delightful rural lanes of Grouville and a walk along the beach and find out the fascinating history of this part of the Island. Please wear comfortable shoes that you don’t mind getting wet.

Come along on a walk around the rural parish of Trinity. The walk encompasses roads, mud tracks and half a dozen lesser-known Jersey National Trust places of interest. Commencing at Jardin d’Olivet, we will amble through country lanes, taking in a well-head and woodlands on our way to an inconveniently placed lavoir. Dating from 1834, we will pause to spare a thought for the poor tenants of Le Fief de L’Abbesse de Caen who would have struggle to bring their laundry to this public washing place. Emerging onto La Falaize we will be rewarded with spectacular coastal views across the Les Écréhous and beyond to Normandy.

Forty talented photographers from Jersey and Guernsey have contributed to this wonderful exhibition, which is the first to take place in our new museum space at Hamptonne.
More than 200 images, printed on banners, capture the incredibly rich biodiversity we have in the Channel Islands – from birds, insects and mammals, to wildflowers, fungi and sea life, with a focus particularly upon Jersey.
In celebration of the arrival of Spring, this is a great way to get more active, enjoy the lighter days, and get out and about with family and friends.
WHAT IS THE CHALLENGE?
Take your pick! All we encourage you to do is walk every day for 30 days between 1 – 30 April. But everyone is different so here are some ideas for how you can take on the challenge:
Walk a mile every day for 30 days.
Walk 10,000 steps every day for 30 days.
Challenge friends and family to see who can walk the most steps during the month.
Sign up as a team of 4 and challenge another team (think inter-office or inter-firm rivalry!) to see who can walk the most steps during the month. You could also choose a destination that you could aim to ‘walk’ to – for example, a team of 4 could cover 660 miles during the month (based on 10,000 steps a day) which would take them as far as Denmark or Spain! So where could you walk to?!
You can walk whenever you like – so whether it’s as the sun is rising to start the day off right, or when it’s setting to celebrate the end of the day, your commute to and from work, to collect shopping, walk the dog, in your lunch hour, or when the children are in bed – the timing is up to you and what fits in with your day!

Something strange and delightful has been happening there over the winter. Les P’tits Faîtchieaux, or little folk, are back and they have been busy creating a new home. In fact, they have been so busy, we think there could be a whole village!
We hope the fairies will stay for some time and we’d like them to settle in properly before being visited by your little people, so take the opportunity to visit them from the end of January.

Shrek brings all the beloved characters you know from the film to life on stage…and proves there’s more to the story than meets the ears!
Based on the Dreamworks Animation Motion Picture and the book by William Steig. Originally produced on Broadway by DreamWorks Theatricals and Neal Street Productions. This amateur production is presented by arrangement with Music Theatre International (Europe) All authorised performance materials are also supplied by MTI Europe.
This walk explores the prehistoric landscape of St Clement, how it was shaped by our prehistoric ancestors and the many megalithic structures and markers left by them between 2000 and 6000 years ago. As we will pass through and by National Trust land, we will also contemplate the bits that we cannot see! The walk is mainly on public roads but there are sections across fields and along paths which may be rough, slippery, and undulating.

Meet Rose Le Brun, the Bouonnefemme at Hamptonne, who will let you in on local secrets and village gossip
Rose’s predecessor, Old Maud, had been at Hamptonne for years, but she travelled to St Aubin to see family and never returned. Perhaps the plague got her – they had a lot of it down there.
Rose was born in the parish of St Lawrence in 1606 and lived in the Vingtaine du Coin Motier, where Hamptonne House stands, all her life. She serves as housekeeper for Jurat Laurens Hamptonne, who himself witnessed Rose lugging a large poutchie of apples up the hill, and thought her constitution would be fitting to take charge of his household.
Meet the Bouonnefemme at Hamptonne from Tuesday to Friday from 10am to 4pm (except first Friday of the month when the performance will be on a Saturday)

Meet the ‘Merry Monarch’ for a tour of his Castle and he’ll tell you some fascinating stories of his time in Jersey
It is September 1649, amidst the tumultuous events of the English Civil War, having been exiled from his ‘dear England’, King Charles II, and his younger brother, The Duke of York, have sought refuge in Jersey. Meet the ‘Merry Monarch’ at the Third Gate and he’ll take you on a tour of his Castle and he’ll tell you some fascinating stories of his time in Jersey.
Meet King Charles II every Monday and Thursday from 10am to 4pm at Elizabeth Castle.

Take a walk in that most Jersey of Parishes – St Ouen. We’ll leave the Parish hall via green lanes and visit the 6000-year-old dolmen, then stroll onto the “waving fields” where wives and girlfriends would have waved ‘goodbye’ to fishermen as they went off on hazardous journeys as part of the ‘cod’ triangle, with its spectacular views across the calm – or raging – Atlantic ocean. Then back via Rue du Canal, past the windmill, church, and other reminders of the occupation before returning to the Parish Hall.

Enjoy a journey from village to tower and castle and back again. Your guide Roger will take you on a time travelling adventure through Jersey History with spectacular views, especially on a clear day. Wander through the medieval village of Gorey, and up to the headland of Mont St Nicholas, to find a hidden 6000-year-old megalithic tomb and a 19th Century defensive tower. Descend to the Castle, which was once the headquarters of an 18th Century spymaster and Prince, and on to the harbour to hear about harbour life past and present, and stroll along the tracks of the old Jersey Eastern Railway. The guided walk is in the most part a gentle ramble. Although it contains a flight of steep steps, it is possible to bypass these if necessary.

St Martin has a surprising number of historic tales to reveal! From Gorey harbour to the headland above and then into the adjoining lanes there are some intriguing examples of the Jerseyman’s endeavours from the Neolithic era; the Middle Ages; Victorian times and WW2 to the present day. This peaceful area also has a long agricultural history and several National Trust connections all making for an enjoyable and informative morning adventure!
Time: 2.30pm.
Meeting Point: Bus Stop at Gorey Pier
Duration of walk approx. 2 – 2.25 hours/Easy to moderate walking. Please note there is a set of steep steps and three hills to negotiate.
Parking: Car Parking at Gorey or at Longbeach with a walk along the promenade
The walk will start in Sands Car Park. We will walk through Les Mielles de Morville
exploring the area and then head up onto the plateau and head along small lanes to Grantez where we will explore the neolithic site and then walk back towards the beach and back to the Wetland Centre and Sands. Distance 4.3 miles 400 ft of ascent. 3 hours walk and follow footpaths up on to the plateau and to Grantez and then back into the bay. Find out about the past landscapes of the bay and discover some hidden paths.

Rebecca Caine is an international opera singer and actress who created the role of Cosette in Les Miserables for the RSC and was a celebrated Christine Daae in Phantom of the Opera in the West End and her native country, Canada. Her operatic credits include the roles of Lulu, Vixen, Marguerite, Violetta and Susanna for companies such as the English National Opera, Glyndebourne, Nice, Glimmerglass and Scottish Opera. She recently received rave reviews for her performances in The Light in the Piazza in the USA and Conor Mitchell’s Abomination at the Southbank Centre, and in between is occasionally found anywhere in the world taking the veil as the world’s least likely Mother Abbess.

In 2012 the world’s largest Celtic hoard was discovered buried in a field in Jersey. This exhibition explores what might have led people to bury a hoard of 70,000 coins and jewellery in Jersey, 2000 years ago and looks closely at some of the items found within the hoard.
Explore the time when Roman armies marched through Europe, 2000 years ago, they left behind them a trail of death and destruction which almost wiped out the culture and civilization of the Celtic people who lived there. Using scientific and archaeological research we can learn more about the people that buried the hoard, about their lives and customs. Ground-breaking research can tell us more about the moment and the place the hoard was buried. It might even challenge some long-held ideas about why hoards were buried.
In celebration of the arrival of Spring, this is a great way to get more active, enjoy the lighter days, and get out and about with family and friends.
WHAT IS THE CHALLENGE?
Take your pick! All we encourage you to do is walk every day for 30 days between 1 – 30 April. But everyone is different so here are some ideas for how you can take on the challenge:
Walk a mile every day for 30 days.
Walk 10,000 steps every day for 30 days.
Challenge friends and family to see who can walk the most steps during the month.
Sign up as a team of 4 and challenge another team (think inter-office or inter-firm rivalry!) to see who can walk the most steps during the month. You could also choose a destination that you could aim to ‘walk’ to – for example, a team of 4 could cover 660 miles during the month (based on 10,000 steps a day) which would take them as far as Denmark or Spain! So where could you walk to?!
You can walk whenever you like – so whether it’s as the sun is rising to start the day off right, or when it’s setting to celebrate the end of the day, your commute to and from work, to collect shopping, walk the dog, in your lunch hour, or when the children are in bed – the timing is up to you and what fits in with your day!
You can use it as a good excuse to explore all corners of the island with these self guided walking routes from Visit Jersey:
We examine the evidence of the Island’s involvement in the transatlantic slave trade, including Jersey’s Lieutenant-Governor Sir George Carteret who was a founder member of the Royal Africa Company that traded in ivory, gold and enslaved people in the 17th century; Captain François Messervy of Jersey who was killed in 1722 during an uprising on board his slave ship off the coast of Africa; and Jersey trader Josué Mauger who in 1752 advertised enslaved people for sale in Nova Scotia, Canada, where his business was based.
This exhibition takes place in the Victorian House at Jersey Museum, with its impressive mahogany staircase, because new research has shown that the house was built partly on the profits of the transatlantic slave trade. ‘Trade Roots’ explores Jersey’s historic links to slavery, from Islanders who owned mahogany plantations overseas and traded in slave-produced goods, to those who campaigned for the abolition of slavery.
Thought-provoking, and at times challenging, this exhibition exposes some uncomfortable new stories from Jersey’s past and examines the legacy and impact of transatlantic slavery on the Island’s community today.
Stand to attention for the Midday Parade and prepare yourself for the resounding bang of the signal gun
The Master Gunner will ensure that your backs are straight, your chins are high, and bellies are tucked-in as you stand to attention for the Midday Parade on the expanse of the Castle’s Parade Ground. Delight in the storytelling of the Gunner, who will enlighten you into the tales and mysteries of bygone times at the Castle, from the reign of Queen Elizabeth I to the Battle of Jersey in 1781. Then finally prepare yourself for the resounding bang of the signal gun and flintlock musket.
Meet the Master Gunner or Cadet Gunner at Elizabeth Castle on the following days:
Tuesday to Saturday from 10am to 4pm with some performances on Monday and Sunday.

Meet Rose Le Brun, the Bouonnefemme at Hamptonne, who will let you in on local secrets and village gossip
Rose’s predecessor, Old Maud, had been at Hamptonne for years, but she travelled to St Aubin to see family and never returned. Perhaps the plague got her – they had a lot of it down there.
Rose was born in the parish of St Lawrence in 1606 and lived in the Vingtaine du Coin Motier, where Hamptonne House stands, all her life. She serves as housekeeper for Jurat Laurens Hamptonne, who himself witnessed Rose lugging a large poutchie of apples up the hill, and thought her constitution would be fitting to take charge of his household.
Meet the Bouonnefemme at Hamptonne from Tuesday to Friday from 10am to 4pm (except first Friday of the month when the performance will be on a Saturday)

‘Turn back the clock’ on a visit to 19th century St Helier
During the 1800’s St Helier witnessed both a commercial boom and a population explosion the likes of which had never been seen before. On this walk we search out some shining examples of the skilled work of 19th century architects and builders who helped shape the expanding town which can still be seen amongst all the modern-day development. We also see some of the entertainment hubs of the time and period homes owned by the National Trust such as 16 New Street and the restored Pitt Street cottages.

Amanda invites you to reclaim the sense of wonder you experienced as a child, remembering the kind of places that you loved, and take a slow wander, immersing yourself with all your senses. Leaning into our imagination, we’ll explore familiar places with new eyes. Replant your psyche in nature, and feel yourself fully present, falling in love with the earth! Foraging for a wild herb tea infusion and spring delights will be included in our wanders, a simple act that soothes the stresses of daily life and reminds us of our deeper connection to the land.
Enjoy a leisurely walk around Grève de Lecq and the lanes of St Ouen to discuss sustainability in an island setting and the site of the former Seaside Café recently purchased for the public by the Government of Jersey and acquired by the Trust.
