WHAT TO EXPECT
Bassics takes over Watersplash Jersey, hosting legendary Doncaster-born, London-based producer & DJ Mella Dee, alongside Leeds-based Redshift, and special guests Evil Nine and Scott Nixon, for an event unlike anything else the Island has seen, with an all-vinyl main room, 12 hours of music, and lots of other surprises along the way.
DAY TERRACE PARTY 2PM-9PM
12 hours of music begins with a free day party on the terrace, bringing a mixture of genres including house, breakbeat, garage, trip-hip and dub reggae from talented local DJs.
NIGHT PARTY 9:30PM-2:AM
Across two rooms, expect an all-vinyl main room spinning an eclectic selection of garage, house and techno, as well as high-energy & old-school vibes in room 2.

Over a decade into his career, Doncaster-born, London-based, Ryan Aitchison aka Mella Dee is treading a new path. His brand-new Nothing Stays The Same brand encompasses a party series and record label with a sense of community at its heart. 2025 was a cementing year into this new path, pairing a release on the infamous dutch outfit SlapFunk Records and the launch of ‘UK Minimal’, a 2-volume series enveloping a deeper approach to his productions on Nothing Stays the Same.
Rekindling his passion for electronic music on the dancefloor at clubs like FOLD, BRET and festivals including Love International, Houghton, Gottwood and BLOCK9 at Glastonbury, after a period where he felt like he was ‘going through the motions’, he knew it was time to start something new. And so Nothing Stays The Same was born, launching at Glastonbury 2024 followed by a series of sold out takeovers at Pikes, Ibiza and around the UK and Ireland featuring DJs including Saoirse, Gene on Earth, Amaliah, Ivan Smagghe, Laidlaw and Fumiya Tanaka. Fast forward to 2026 and Ryan is headlining his own ‘All-dee-long’ show in the legendary Phonox, London.
Changing things up is not new to Mella Dee. Over the course of a decade, he’s evolved from playing bass-heavy, garage inflicted sounds to exploring the experimental edges of techno, often drawing influence from Ricardo Villalobos. All the while working with everyone from New Order’s Bernard Sumner to R’N’B vocalist infinite Coles.
Following recent releases on fabric records, Saoirse’s trUst recordings, as well as remixing legendary bands like Happy Mondays, the launch of his outfit Nothing Stays The Same saw a partnership with Vinyl Factory bringing to life the first two volumes on a hand-stamped, limited edition vinyl.
Growing up in South Yorkshire, his early introductions to music came via his parents’ northern soul collection and hardcore tape packs passed down by his older sister, before drum ‘n’ bass, dubstep, bassline and house and techno became a major fixture in his life as he started raving in Sheffield and Leeds in his late teens.
Cutting his teeth on pirate radio in Leeds, his debut release under the Mella Dee moniker came in 2012 before a move to London in 2013 took his career to the next level. Teaming up with Shy FX’s Digital Soundboy crew, he began playing around the city and beyond as he unleashed a series of bass heavy, garage inflected house releases which began to prick the ears of everyone from Annie Mac to Ben UFO.
Never one to stand still, his sound began to pivot towards house and techno around 2016 and his career took a serious upward curve when the Sister Sledge sampling ‘Techno Disco Tool’ became an inescapable dancefloor anthem in 2017.
In 2017 he launched his own Warehouse Music imprint, named after the infamous Warehouse club in Doncaster and designed to allow him to put out a steady stream of his own productions and release music from artists he felt an affinity to including Leo Pol, Spencer Parker and Cici.
True to the new Nothing Stays The Same aesthetic, for now Warehouse Music is out of focus to make way for this new direction and era in the Mella Dee story. Change is inevitable – with Warehouse Music on ice, all focus is on Nothing Stays the Same and a new era in the Mella Dee story, as the
label broadens its horizons with a punchy A&R approach, pushing upcoming talent that Ryan identifies as no thrills, feet stomping club music.
