Whether you’re a history buff, enthusiast or simply seeking a unique outing, discover some of the best preserved & restored WW2 German fortifications in Europe today maintained by the C.I. Occupation Society since the late 1970s by passionate, knowledgeable volunteers who offer sites presenting a ‘working atmosphere’ feel over the ‘static museum’ approach where you can get ‘hands on’ with weapons and equipment plus many sites also have details of original crew members who returned post war!
Batterie Lothringen at Noirmont Point will be open 10-4pm which includes the multi-floored command bunker, neighbouring observation and range finding tower ‘MP1’ and several other bunkers that supported the Battery’s 15cm guns which can be visited as part of a self guided Fortifications Trail, plus Jersey War Tours shop offer militaria, books and more for visitors!
PT-509 Memorial at Noirmont Point

Local Historian Alex Fearn will tell the story of the fierce battle that raged when US Navy Patrol Torpedo boats of Ron 34 Squadron intercepted a German convoy in the foggy early hours of August 9th 1944. During the engagement the PT-509 was lost after ramming a German minesweeper just off Noirmont Point while the PT-503 & PT-507 were damaged with the combined loss of 16 US Naval personnel – the most costly battle suffered by any of American PT squadron serving in either the Pacific, Atlantic or Mediterranean theaters of engagement. The event will include a wreath laying ceremony at the memorial.
Strongpoint Corbiere is open 2-5pm where you can discover extensively restored fortifications with two linked by an unexpected and impressive tunnel! Details of the original crew members and what they got up to can be found thanks to their post war return! Plus information on how the bunkers were constructed and the forced labour used.
El-Tico Personnel Shelter. Our friends of The Jersey Fortifications Study Group are opening their restored personnel shelter on Sunday from 11am until about 4pm with exterior displays, military vehicles (weather permitting) plus a selection of militaria & books on sale to help raise funds for the sterling work they do!
