Claude Cahun steps out of time, removes her masks, and takes us behind her enigmatic photographic self-portraits.

She conjures up a Chorus of Cahuns to enact her extraordinary life story from a difficult childhood in provincial Nantes, via the political and creative excitement of Paris, to an idyllic retreat in Jersey, while always challenging conventions of gender and identity.

During the Occupation, together with her life partner Marcel Moore, Cahun engages all of her skills as a writer and artist, risking her life to heroically resist the Nazis through her persona The Soldier With No Name.

This new play by Jacqueline Mézec, commissioned by Jersey Arts Centre and directed by Daniel Austin, is provocative, inspiring and moving with its black humour, vivid storytelling and poetry.
