It’s May 1945, and the friendly Force 135 have arrived at Elizabeth Castle, tasked with clearing the German mines, munitions, bunkers and booby traps and return the Island to civilian rule.

Come and learn about ‘the Other Military Occupation’ – did you know that at Liberation in May 1945 the Island was kept under military rule for a further 90 days?
This was of course a welcome Occupation by the friendly forces of Force 135, who were tasked with clearing the German mines, munitions, bunkers and booby traps and return the Island to civilian rule as soon as possible.
