A Hollywood director in Jersey

John Schultz is an American filmmaker who has written and directed for several Hollywood studios, including 20th Century Fox, Paramount, Disney and Netflix.

He started making Super 8 short films in North Carolina before moving to Holland, then France, before returning to the US to study – and make longer films on 16mm.

He moved out to Los Angeles, directing music videos and behind the scenes featurettes for the studios, culminating in writing and directing an hour long documentary The Making of Jurassic Park.

He then progressed to feature films, writing and directing Bandwagon, an independent film selected for the main competition at the 1996 Sundance Film Festival. The film sold, and studios began paying John to make movies.

In 2021 he relocated to the island with his two children and Jersey-born wife, in pursuit of a better quality of life, and to realise the cinematic potential of this beautiful place. He has written a supernatural thriller inspired by Jersey legends, and is currently seeking independent financing with the aim to film the movie all on island.

John will be in conversation with Steve Carter, Art Director and Industry Liaison with 13th Parish Jersey International Film Festival.
