Originally farmland, Oaklands is a rambling garden surrounded by beds containing many specimen shrubs and trees.  As you walk around you will find Cherries, Exochorda, Azaleas and Rhododendron and further still a beautiful woodland walk with a carpet of bluebells.  Oaklands is a plantsman’s garden with a well recognised arboretum.  The trees planted by Jurat Bonn include Acers, Drimys, Michelia, Metasequoia and what is reputed to be Jersey’s largest walnut. An informal and natural feel prevails throughout. A further highlight is the well-stocked kitchen garden which keeps the family self-sufficient in fruit and veg.  Open by kind permission of owners.

At Oaklands there will be disabled parking near the house. From the disabled parking and from the main entrance gate there is wheelchair access to the terrace where cream teas are served, however, this involves going over grass.

It is quite a long walk from the entrance gate but this is where there was a drive previously, so it is quite firm under the grass. The walk from the disabled parking involves walking on the driveway and then on the lawn for the length of the terrace to access the slope up to it.

The walks around the garden are all grassy, the lawn in front of the house and around the vegetable garden is mowed but not the grass in the woodland areas. The toilet is small, it has 2 steps up to the door and no additional handles.

We look forward to seeing you there! https://maps.app.goo.gl/LetCUftwfmuSjPge9

JAYF Open Gardens are a fantastic family outing and a joy for garden lovers everywhere. Thank you to everyone who visited or supported our Open Gardens in 2023, we had a very successful season and it wouldn’t have been possible without all our wonderful volunteers and visitors. Guests tried their luck at tombolas and treated themselves to delicious cream tea, served with genuine Jersey clotted cream, milk and butter kindly donated by Fungi Delecti and Jersey Dairy. Thanks also to Neil and Alli Singleton of Birding Tours who ensured guests got the most out of their visit with their wonderful guided Walk and Talks. JAYF are enormously grateful to Aztec Group for its continued support of the Open Garden scheme.
