The Nettle Dress – 13th Parish Festival

13th Parish Festival (Jersey International Film Festival) is proud to present, with our partner Jersey Arts Centre, this stunning new documentary just released this month.

Textile artist Allan Brown spends seven years making a dress by hand, just from the fibre of locally foraged stinging nettles. This is ‘hedgerow couture’, the greenest of slow fashion – but it’s also his medicine. This is how he survives the passing of his wife, and finds a beautiful way to honour her.

This documentary follows Allan through the foraging of nettles, the process of making and crafting and the final result. A modern day fairytale and a hymn to the healing power of nature and slow craft.

An exquisite and inspiring film” – Sir Mark Rylance

If you’ve ever wondered what the Earth would have fashion do, this is your answer” – Professor Kate Fletcher, sustainable fashion activist

Craft transformed by imagination into art , like an alchemical allegory”  – Patrick Harpur, author
