Brooke Hospital for Animals was founded by Dorothy Brooke to help the old warhorses abandoned at the end of the First World War.
Brooke works hard to deliver lasting change by training and supporting owners, local vets, farriers, harness makers and traders to improve standards of care for their animals and in doing so helps families to put food on the table, send their children to school and build better futures for themselves.
We’re thrilled to share with you our new video. These striking images highlight the lives of millions of hardworking horses, donkeys and mules who help people in the developing world work their way out of poverty. Many people don’t realise that there are so many working horses, donkeys and mules in the world today. Please share to raise awareness for these animals.

What We Do
The Brooke Jersey Supporters Group was set up in 2001 and since then has raised over £350,000. Our annual goal is to raise at least £20,00 to drectly fund a mobile vetinary team in Lahore, Pakistan.
This funding supports a vehicle with a qualified veterinary officer, vet`s assistant, farrier, harness maker and medical supplies. The team delivers vetinary treatment and works with owners and their families to help them take better care of the hard-working animals on whom their livelihoods depend.
The Brooke’s methods are simple, inexpensive and can be learned and implemented by local people. Animals in work can enjoy companionship and social interaction with people and their own species. We believe that working animals should be rewarded with consideration, care and relief of suffering. Teaching kindness to animals is at the heart of what we do.
