Gather your friends and family and immerse yourself in Christmas cheer at this year’s Genuine Jersey Simply Christmas markets in St Helier’s Royal Square. Showcasing over 50 of Jersey’s finest artisans, Simply Christmas brings you a labyrinth of stalls oozing with festive magic, beautiful gifts and tasty treats.
With hot food and live music, it’s the perfect place to buy unique gifts directly from the artisans who have created and produced them. The markets are located in the historic Royal Square in the centre of St Helier, just a few minutes walk from the central bus station.
The Markets will be open:-
Thursday 24 Nov, 1 & 8 Dec 10:00 – 20:00 (late night shopping in St Helier)
We examine the evidence of the Island’s involvement in the transatlantic slave trade, including Jersey’s Lieutenant-Governor Sir George Carteret who was a founder member of the Royal Africa Company that traded in ivory, gold and enslaved people in the 17th century; Captain François Messervy of Jersey who was killed in 1722 during an uprising on board his slave ship off the coast of Africa; and Jersey trader Josué Mauger who in 1752 advertised enslaved people for sale in Nova Scotia, Canada, where his business was based.
This exhibition takes place in the Victorian House at Jersey Museum, with its impressive mahogany staircase, because new research has shown that the house was built partly on the profits of the transatlantic slave trade. ‘Trade Roots’ explores Jersey’s historic links to slavery, from Islanders who owned mahogany plantations overseas and traded in slave-produced goods, to those who campaigned for the abolition of slavery.
Thought-provoking, and at times challenging, this exhibition exposes some uncomfortable new stories from Jersey’s past and examines the legacy and impact of transatlantic slavery on the Island’s community today.
If you, a loved one, a neighbour, or a friend, have a few hours to spare, and want to connect with art and people – please contact me HEREto book your space.

“When it comes to her approach to music, Adria is a spirit that knows no boundaries. In addition to having a beautiful voice and the uncanny ability to connect with her audience, she is a natural performer.
When Adria performs, she will transport you back to her Latin musical roots, accompanied by her band. Infusing a contemporary edge into this irresistible music, this band creates an absolutely sensational and authentic musical experience for the audience.

There are so many annual highlights at Hamptonne to celebrate and now we’re ready to add another to the Jersey Heritage calendar with Tree Dressing Day. Join Jersey Heritage in the orchard at Hamptonne for an early evening, winter warmer of an event to celebrate our leafy friends, whose presence alone is enough to reduce stress and improve our sense of wellbeing.
The orchard at Hamptonne is rather special; it is made up of 23 apple trees that are all local cider varieties. At the January Wassail, our visitors help to bless the trees in the hope of an abundant harvest later in the year. They stroll and play under the canopy of blossom provided by them in the spring, picnic under their shade in the heat of the summer and help to pick the apples in the autumn, ready for cider making at La Faîs’sie d’Cidre.
Wrap up warm and join artist Kerry-Jane Warner for decoration making and tree dressing from 4pm, with music and merriment to follow.
This Sunday – Jessica Lloyds Chays will add a touch of finesse to your evening with this stylish and sophisticated piano and vocal duo, accompanied by professional pianist Paul Mathews.
Light jazz sounds, ballads, love songs, and country blues are all part of their perfectly chosen charming repertoire.

An exhibition that explores how the right to protest has shaped and influenced the Island that we know today.
‘People! Power! Protest!’ explores the story of protest in Jersey, from the Corn Riots of 1769 to the Black Lives Matter movement of 2020.
Jersey may be small but Islanders have made their voices heard loud and clear over the years. Jersey has a fascinating history of protest in the Island and the theme of the exhibition coincides with the 250th anniversary of the Code of Laws that was introduced in response to the Corn Riots.
The exhibition explores how the right to protest has shaped and influenced the Island that we know today, from historic protests, such as the Corn Riots, to more recent protests such as Extinction Rebellion and Black Lives Matter.
Among the items on display is the official 18th century court records showing the redacted demands of the Corn Riots protestors, and the petition signed by thousands of people to try and save Queen’s Valley from being flooded in the 1980s. There are also the banners and placards from other protests over the years and photographs of significant post-war campaigns and demonstrations.
As you enter the exhibition ‘People! Power! Protest!’, you’ll see a stunning graffiti-style entrance wall by designer James Carter, of Midnight Industries. Celebrated local artist Ian Rolls has also created a new version of his iconic climate stripes mural in the environmental protest section of the exhibition. Visitors can to listen to stories of protest and share their own memories of their involvement in campaigns and demonstrations over the years.

Well after the best part of 14 years we have decided to call it a day.
Unfortunately Sid and his family are leaving the Island, and it didn’t feel right to carry on with the band without him. So please come along if you can and help us celebrate the last 14 years, which have been an absolute blast. To be honest most of the audience will be made up of our former drummers so get down early to avoid disappointment
We are currently in the process of recording our original music and will hopefully be able to share this with you sometime in the New Year. The remaining band members will carry on making music for your pleasure but will probably be in a different direction and under a new name, we’ll keep you posted!
It’s not goodbye just see you later and a thank you to everyone who has supported us over the years!

It’s been a number of years since Newton’s blessed us with his presence (and voice) in Jersey and we’re happy to announce he’ll be back with us under the Spiegeltent in December.
Throughout Newton’s immensely successful career he has sold over 1.5 million records with 180 million streams making him one of the UK’s most successful singer-songwriters this millennium.
Across the songwriter’s freewheeling fifteen-year career, the sole constant has been his urge to tear down what came before, shed his creative skin and outrun industry dogma. Already, that rebel spirit has seen Faulkner’s music pinball from the outer-limits acoustic sorcery of 2007’s UK#1 debut, Hand Built By Robots, through an acclaimed catalogue that takes in rock, pop, folk, soul and beyond.

We are delighted to announce that chart-topping, platinum-selling and multiple award-nominated British rock band Scouting For Girls will perform at the Salon Perdu Spiegeltent following their incredible performance on the Electric Park Main Stage last September.
Formed in 2005, Scouting For Girls are Roy Stride, Greg Churchouse and James Rowlands. They burst on to the scene with their 2007 self-titled debut, a record that reached number 1 in the UK Album Charts, went on to become triple platinum and birthed the generation-bridging anthems of ‘She’s So Lovely’, ‘Elvis Ain’t Dead’ and ‘Heartbeat’. To date the album has sold over one million copies in the UK. In total, they have sold over two million records, including five albums and thirteen singles.
In the decade since Scouting For Girls, the band have released Everybody Wants To Be On TV (2010), The Light Between Us (2012), Still Thinking About You (2015) and 2019’s The Trouble with Boys, plus the chart-topping mega hit single ‘This Ain’t A Love Song’. They’ve picked up nominations for four Brits, an Ivor Novello and played everywhere from a sold-out Wembley Arena to countless festival stages.
Scouting For Girls, quite simply, write massive pop bangers. Roy Stride says, “We love making music that connects with people in a really fun, happy way. I love writing songs which I know are going to connect with ten thousand people in a field. We’ve always been an amazing party band. We’re the band playing in the middle of the afternoon at a festival, that everyone wants to see because they know it’s going to be fun. They know it’s going to be a laugh. With Scouting For Girls, the glass is definitely, always half full. I really enjoy looking at what we’ve done, but I also enjoy where we are at the moment. It is a very happy place to be.”
And that’s reflected in their last album 2019’s The Trouble With Boys, which featured lead single ‘Grown Up’, co-written with James Blunt. Upbeat, fun and infectious, ‘The Trouble With Boys’ dives into their love of uniquely British bands like The Kinks, ELO, Madness and The Beatles. It’s designed to make people feel good. It’s about remembering to be excited, care-free and in love. Feelings that we could all do with a dose of when Electric Park makes its return next summer.

We will be holding a morning session on Saturday 17th December, meeting at Sands Car Park (opposite the Wetland Centre) for 9:30-13:00. The event will consist of the removal of Purple Dew along the coastal strips of St. Ouens Bay.
The Disphyma Purple Dew Plant (or Sour Fig) is an invasive plant species that grows widely across Jersey, and especially in St. Ouens bay. Due to the plant thriving in sandy environments, if not managed correctly the plant would otherwise blanket the grass and sandy areas of the Bay – suffocating the growth of Jersey’s rich and diverse native species that would normally thrive in this area. Purple Dew Plant will also prevent some animals, such as solitary bees, from accessing their nesting sites
All the tools/equipment will be supplied, but please do bring your own gloves if possible.
There will be tea and coffee provided. Space is limited so please sign up if you would like to join. An email will be sent to those who have signed up prior to the day to confirm it is still going ahead.
Thank you again for your interest in volunteering with The National Trust of Jersey and we look forward to welcoming you on to one of our events soon.

Do not forget to make your reservation to avoid disappointment as space is limited…
This Saturday night l will be stepping back on stage at @cornerhousejersey and performing the songs of the incredible Rod Stewart and Robbie Williams… Two artists I’ve grown to adore in my 24 years so far…
If you can’t make A Night Of Christmas on Friday night then MAKE SURE you get to this one. It’s gonna go offfffff! Don’t miss it!
This Christmas we open up the doors to the legendary Watersplash for one of the most unmissable nights of the year!
On Saturday 17th December it’s the huge OUT-THERE Christmas Party with two floors of music including headliners on both floors, featuring some of the biggest names from the worlds of house and drum and bass!
Headlining proceedings upstairs is a man who already delivered arguably the biggest set of the year at the unforgettable LIB IN THE SQUARE back in May!
The newest phenomenon of the house music scene, Scottish party-starter EWAN MCVICAR returns for an unmissable showcase set at the Splash this Christmas! Ewan made his name earlier this year with the BIGGEST dance track of the year ‘TELL ME SOMETHING GOOD’ which every house DJ across the globe played to death!
Since playing to 2250 people in Royal Square back in May along with ANNIE MAC, Ewan has gone from strength to strength, touring the globe and some of the world’s biggest clubs and festivals along the way!
Downstairs in The Bassment we’ll be joined by one of the most incredible producers in drum and bass today, and one of the next breed of stars in drum and bass, the one and only PARTICLE!
A name that needs no introduction to the local drum and bass crew, signed to the legendary Critical Records, and having already made some unforgettable local appearances over the years!
He is hotter than ever right now, with his back catalogue getting stronger with every release, not to mention his huge single ‘Fall 2 Fast ‘ which was one of the biggest dnb tracks of 2021!
Support in both rooms come from Jersey’s finest batch of DJ’s, consisting of Warren Le Sueur, Simon Gasston, Alex Le Put & Harry Gillen in the main room, with BE:AU, JDS, KAL & Rebound MC supporting Particle in the Bassment!

Help to stir the Christmas pudding in the 1940s kitchen
Taste gingerbread in the Victorian bakehouse
Cosy down for festive storytelling in the lounge of Syvret House
Candle dipping and weaving in Langlois House
Follow the sprout trail – for little “sprouts”
Mulled wine and mince pies in Hamptonne café
You’ll even find old St Nick warming his boots by the fire in Hamptonne House on Saturday, (17th) 1.30pm-4.30pm and Sunday (18th) 11am-2pm. Please note that he’s on a very busy schedule and when he’s not there, he’ll be needing us to help polish Rudolph’s reins ready for Christmas Eve.

“Come and join a pre Christmas walk to hear about some of Jersey’s customs and traditions, whilst you explore St Helier. Discover some of the fascinating places and hear about some remarkable events that have taken place in the capital of Jersey during the Christmas seasons in the last two millennia”
He’s making a list, and checking it twice; gonna find out who’s naughty and nice…
…and if you’ve been really good, then on the 11th, Monty Losh our Christmas elf will be leading you a festival excursion through St. Helier. On the 18th, Tom Bunting, our Santa look-alike will be coming to town! They are going to regale you with festive tales of yore, as you wander under the Christmas lights of St. Helier.
We’ll commence in Liberation Square. Wear your favourite Christmas jumper, mistletoe is optional.
Christmas Special tickets will still be £10 for adults and can either be booked via tinyurl.com/sthelierwalks , calling tom on 07797780868 or just turning up on the day.

And to make sure that Jersey Cancer relief can support as many local cancer sufferers as possible.

Santa outfits or a Christmas-themed outfit is essential.
The route will be announced in the group shortly.
If you would like to volunteer as a support rider on the day please drop me a message HERE

An exhibition at Jersey Archive to mark the Platinum Jubilee.

Enjoy an afternoon of creativity and conviviality, mulled wine and mince pies with textile artist Beverley Speck
Come along and and create a lovely textile Father Christmas decorative banner for the festive season for your tree, garland or anywhere else you choose to display it…

An exhibition at Jersey Archive to mark the Platinum Jubilee.
To mark the Platinum Jubilee, a FREE exhibition at Jersey Archive exploring the Royal Visits of the Monarch to our Island before and during her 70 years on the throne. Using images from the Jersey Evening Post Photo Archive and documents from the archive.
Jersey Archive is open Monday to Thursday, 9am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm.

Hello just wanted to give you a quick heads up. The words in your article seem to be running off the screen in Internet explorer. I’m not sure if this is a formatting issue or something to do with web browser compatibility but I figured I’d post to let you know. The design and style look great though! Hope you get the issue solved soon. Cheers

Today, while I was at work, my sister stole my iPad and tested to see if it can survive a 30 foot drop, just so she can be a youtube sensation. My apple ipad is now broken and she has 83 views. I know this is totally off topic but I had to share it with someone!
