Join Roger Noel on a fascinating exploration of the South-East corner of Jersey, from coastline to country lanes and back again.
This circular walk begins at La Rocque Harbour where you can hear about the fascinating history of this harbour and former fishing port. See where the invading French troops landed on a cold winter’s night of 5th January 1781, and learn of the 18th and 20th century fortifications that now protect this area of coastline, which is also a designated area of special interest, and protected Ramsar site.
From La Rocque you wander inland, venturing into the countryside, to enjoy fantastic views, catch glimpses of visiting and local birdlife, and hear a little of our agriculture and oyster farming industries.
The walk returns full circle, through the country lanes, following the route of the old Jersey Eastern Railway, and heads back to the beach, for a final stroll along the shoreline returning to La Rocque Harbour.
This gentle stroll, which encounters no hills and just a few steps, will take approximately three hours, with a chance of a well earned refreshment at the end.

Shakespeare’s shortest and funniest play, performed in the beautiful grounds of Samares Manor. This colourful, lively and sparkling production has something for everyone; physical comedy, music, dance, magic and, of course, the Bard’s beautiful words.
The Comedy of Errors is a seemingly straightforward tale, with the action taking place in the course of a single day. After both being separated in a shipwreck from their twins, Antipholus and Dromio of Syracuse have scoured the world to find their long lost brothers. They arrive in Ephesus blissfully unaware that their twins live there. The new arrivals trigger a series of hilarious incidents of mistaken identity which leads to accusations of infidelity, insanity and theft.

Bring your family, bring your friends, bring a picnic and laugh until your sides split.

An exhibition that explores how the right to protest has shaped and influenced the Island that we know today.
‘People! Power! Protest!’ explores the story of protest in Jersey, from the Corn Riots of 1769 to the Black Lives Matter movement of 2020.
Jersey may be small but Islanders have made their voices heard loud and clear over the years. Jersey has a fascinating history of protest in the Island and the theme of the exhibition coincides with the 250th anniversary of the Code of Laws that was introduced in response to the Corn Riots.
The exhibition explores how the right to protest has shaped and influenced the Island that we know today, from historic protests, such as the Corn Riots, to more recent protests such as Extinction Rebellion and Black Lives Matter.
Among the items on display is the official 18th century court records showing the redacted demands of the Corn Riots protestors, and the petition signed by thousands of people to try and save Queen’s Valley from being flooded in the 1980s. There are also the banners and placards from other protests over the years and photographs of significant post-war campaigns and demonstrations.
As you enter the exhibition ‘People! Power! Protest!’, you’ll see a stunning graffiti-style entrance wall by designer James Carter, of Midnight Industries. Celebrated local artist Ian Rolls has also created a new version of his iconic climate stripes mural in the environmental protest section of the exhibition. Visitors can to listen to stories of protest and share their own memories of their involvement in campaigns and demonstrations over the years.
The Link Gallery is located at Jersey Museum & Art Gallery and is an exhibition space between Jersey Museum and the Société Jersiaise. Each month, the gallery features an exhibition by a different Jersey artist, providing local artists with a central space in St Helier to showcase their work.
The Link Gallery is free for Jersey Heritage Members and non-Members
Light & Land Dawn
Burrows and Stephanie Rondel
4 July 2022 – 28 July 2022
Through their paintings, local artists and art teachers Dawn Burrows and Stephanie Rondel explore their relationship with the Island’s landscape. The exhibition features not only iconic landmarks but takes a closer look at the transient nature of light on the land.
Both artists explore the landscape, longing to capture brief moments when the tide recedes, unveiling the mirroring of the sea and sky. Their work evokes a stillness in a constantly fluid environment, and a vastness in the light and land.

100km A leg stretch of a route around the Island, taking in many hills and stunning scenery as you go.
50km A challenge but achievable, the 50km route is designed for cyclists who want to be challenged but don’t feel confident taking on the full 100km. Features some hills and leg stretch areas.
24km Family Route A great route for the younger cyclists, starting at Albert pier and following the cycle track all the way to Corbiere and back.
7km Family Route Our newest route, and something for the novice and young cyclists, or those on scooters and balance bikes, this route starts at Albert Pier and follows the cycle track to the burger bar and back.
*Please note: Route maps and Strava routes will be updated and communicated in June.
Bikes:
This year we have opened allowed bikes to include electric bikes, to enable more people to take part. Why not hire an Evie bike and take on one of the routes.
Please note: scooters and balance bikes are only permitted on the 7km route.

Claude Cahun steps out of time, removes her masks, and takes us behind her enigmatic photographic self-portraits.
She conjures up a Chorus of Cahuns to enact her extraordinary life story from a difficult childhood in provincial Nantes, via the political and creative excitement of Paris, to an idyllic retreat in Jersey, while always challenging conventions of gender and identity.
During the Occupation, together with her life partner Marcel Moore, Cahun engages all of her skills as a writer and artist, risking her life to heroically resist the Nazis through her persona The Soldier With No Name.
This new play by Jacqueline Mézec, commissioned by Jersey Arts Centre and directed by Daniel Austin, is provocative, inspiring and moving with its black humour, vivid storytelling and poetry.

Coproduction 2022 Opéra de Rennes, Angers Nantes Opéra, avec le soutien de la Fondation Orange et La Caisse d’Epargne Bretagne Pays-de-Loire.
Madame Butterfly is one of the most performed and appreciated operas in the world. The Maggio Musicale Fiorantino’s production by Fabio Ceresa, with its Japanese aesthetic, underlines all its elegance.
The tragic love story takes place in Japan, the land of all fantasies at the beginning of the 20th century. A young geisha, Cio Cio San is seduced and then abandoned by an indifferent American officer. While she dreams of his return, Pinkerton actually returns, but with his new wife and to get his child back. This story of thwarted love also illustrates the clash of cultures between two civilisations at the beginning of the 20th century, a question of otherness that has a particularly strong echo today.
Opera sung in Italian, with French subtitles. Duration 2h45, including intermission.
This will be a projection of Rennes Opera’s performance on June 16th 2022.
Funded by the Government of Jersey. FREE entry to all. Limited capacity of 120 seats

Mary Le Brun will share stories and the latest tittle tattle from 1793 every Friday from May until end of September.
The year is 1793. There is much speculation around St Helier about a fabulous tower that Captain Philippe D’Auverge is erecting atop the medieval chapel at La Hougue Bie.
Mary Le Brun is known, just on occasion mind you, to engage in tittle tattle.
She simply cannot contain herself, and has rushed here to see if the rumours are true.
If your path should happen to cross with hers, she’ll no doubt be keen to divulge little-known rumours of the Captain’s adventurers and heroism.
Meet the Goodwyf, who looks after the house of her master, Monsieur Laurens Hamptonne in the year 1649. She is very respectful of her employer who is a well educated and important man, however this doesn’t prevent her from spreading the odd bit of gossip from the Parish of St Lawrence. The Goodwyf will tell you all about Hamptonne’s royal connections and give your an insight into her day to day life, including cooking on the open fire, making soap and candles.
The Goodwyf is not at Hamptonne every day, so to avoid disappointment please call +44 (0) 1534 863 955
Come and find out about the Jersey Bonnet, it’s history and how it was made, you’ll also learn about the skill of patchwork and quilting from our Bonnet Maker.
This Friday at Roberto’s Jazz Bar, the leading Jazz Quintet performs a selection of Blue Note Record favourites by the greatest Jazz musicians and composers, including Duke Pearson, Miles Davis, Hank Mobley, Lee Morgan, Stanley Turrentine, and Freddie Hubbard.

The walk is in the most part a gentle ramble. Although it contains a flight of steep steps, it is possible to bypass these if necessary. Toilet facilities and refreshments available at the beginning and end of route. Liberty Bus Route 1 / 1a

Come and find out about the Jersey Bonnet, it’s history and how it was made, you’ll also learn about the skill of patchwork and quilting from our Bonnet Maker.
Le Hocq Live are delighted to present the amazing ‘BRICKHOUSE’ on a night of 70’s/80’s disco – Fancy Dress essential (but not compulsory) – prizes for the best!!
The band is comprised of the Island’s top five jazz musicians: Tim Horsfall (piano), Brian White (trumpet), and Dave Andre (Tenor Saxophone) Cris Sparkes (String Bass) Adam Marshall (Drums).
Do not forget to make a reservation to avoid missing out on this unique experience, as space is limited.
Who’s looking forward to our live music this weekend?
Happy Friday everyone looking for live music why not pop down to us, we have Glenn who plays from Buddy Holly to the Artic Monkeys, and bits of everything in between.

Burrows and Stephanie Rondel
4 July 2022 – 28 July 2022

We will also spy a few of the remnants to give us a clue how this was made possible.

Watch as the Spinners of Hamptonne skillfully turn wool into yarn, to be used for one of the most important industries in the Channel Islands – the knitting industry. At times you may also meet the Hamptonne Knitter, who will be making garments from the Hamptonne yarn.
