An exhibition that explores how the right to protest has shaped and influenced the Island that we know today.
‘People! Power! Protest!’ explores the story of protest in Jersey, from the Corn Riots of 1769 to the Black Lives Matter movement of 2020.
Jersey may be small but Islanders have made their voices heard loud and clear over the years. Jersey has a fascinating history of protest in the Island and the theme of the exhibition coincides with the 250th anniversary of the Code of Laws that was introduced in response to the Corn Riots.
The exhibition explores how the right to protest has shaped and influenced the Island that we know today, from historic protests, such as the Corn Riots, to more recent protests such as Extinction Rebellion and Black Lives Matter.
Among the items on display is the official 18th century court records showing the redacted demands of the Corn Riots protestors, and the petition signed by thousands of people to try and save Queen’s Valley from being flooded in the 1980s. There are also the banners and placards from other protests over the years and photographs of significant post-war campaigns and demonstrations.
As you enter the exhibition ‘People! Power! Protest!’, you’ll see a stunning graffiti-style entrance wall by designer James Carter, of Midnight Industries. Celebrated local artist Ian Rolls has also created a new version of his iconic climate stripes mural in the environmental protest section of the exhibition. Visitors can to listen to stories of protest and share their own memories of their involvement in campaigns and demonstrations over the years.

Jersey may be a small island but it has always shown great enterprise and has extended its influence far beyond its shores.
This circular walk from St Aubin explores the path of the railway, the beautiful lanes above the village, our agricultural heritage and the far reaching maritime views that will help to explain our sea trading past. All these endeavours have shaped the island we know today.

Find a lost railway bridge and follow along the track of the old Jersey Eastern Railway, past two station houses which still exist today.
Hear of mariner’s mysteries, seafaring stories and discover a hidden lighthouse and medieval pathways.
Beginning at Le Hocq, St Clement this circular walk explores the coastline for a short distance before heading inland along forgotten pathways, admiring spectacular sweeping sea views from ancient hilltop monuments. Toilet facilities and refreshments available at the beginning and end of route.

Starting at Grosnez and we will walk along the cliffs past the bunkers from the occupation to The Pinnacle.
Starting at Grosnez and after visiting the castle and lighthouse, we will walk along the cliffs past the bunkers from the occupation and to the huge natural megalith of The Pinnacle. For those who want we will walk down to the Pinnacle and look at the prehistoric and Gallo Roman remains before heading back to the castle over the marine heathland and Mesolithic flint knapping area.
St Clement maybe the smallest and by far the most densely populated of Jersey parishes, but it’s also got many well-hidden countryside areas.
St Clement has also got many well-hidden countryside areas and wide-open spaces and we will access quiet natural areas with links to the old railway. Enjoy the wonderful rural aspects from the top of the ‘St Clement’s Trail’, where we will catch our breath and marvel at the panoramic view, including Icho and Seymour Towers and the entirety of the RAMSAR wetlands site.
Along the way we’ll also have a chance to see some of the smaller National Trust properties, standing stones and hear a few stories of former St Clement residents.

Jon will introduce participants to places with strange sounding names such as ‘Bob’s’, ‘the Scrape’, ‘Eddie’s Hide’, ‘the Bath and Rock fields’ and ‘the north and south canals’ to name but a few….
For many centuries the Gorey headland has been dominated by its imposing castle.
During the 1800’s and 1900’s the old port below and the adjoining Grouville beach took on new ‘lives’. First the fishing and shipbuilding industries boomed and then the Eastern Railway arrived along with the first tourists. But the 1900’s saw darker changes when the Gorey area became a focus of activity during the 1940 – 45 German Occupation. Evidence of all these changes and some stories of the period make these earlier times come alive on this scenic walk.
Time: 2.00 p.m.
Meeting Point: The Castle Green at Mont Orgueil
Duration: 1.5 hours/ Easy slow walking/1 mile. Please note there is a short hill down from the green to the pier which is a bit steep.
Experience a wander through woodland and a journey of exploration, through imagery, poetry, story and creative imagination with your guide Amanda Bond. These activities need no former artistic experience just come with a willingness to steep yourself in nature. The forest bathing walk will end with a tea ceremony, and home-made cake.
Even in a built-up area there are plenty of wildflowers with a wealth of folklore to find out about.
Join Tina Hull to explore the area around Les Quennevais Sports Centre and along the Railway Walk. Just a short walk will lead us on to the top of Les Blanches Banques reminding us that the truly wild is never far away from us. Not suitable for under 16 year olds.
Time 5.30 p.m.
Meeting Point: outside St Bernadette’s Church.
Parking: Park in the sport centre’s car park – you must display a yellow parking time disc.

Jersey’s only working watermill is brought to life with a new exhibition exploring how water connects us to each other and the environment.
Artists Karen Le Roy Harris and Miriam Sedacca transform Le Moulin de Quétivel into an immersive space using sculpture, installation, film and performance to expose the vital, yet fragile, relationship we all have with water.
Having previously toured to Stroud and London, it was a natural progression for Karen, who is from Jersey, to bring Until You Became Me to Le Moulin de Quétivel, where water power has been harnessed for milling wheat for generations.
Suitable for all ages, the exhibition includes a soundscape by Heather Ryall marrying the sounds from the natural environment with sounds from domestic life; a new film, partially filmed underwater in Jersey, addressing the relationship Islanders have with the ocean and fresh water; and an installation of ceramic anthropomorphic forms presented alongside found objects from rivers.
Take a walk around Sorel, Mourier Valley and the little hidden pathways in this area.
We may meet the most famous residents of Mourier valley, the multi-horned Manx Loaghtan sheep and we will definitely hear the characterful red-billed Choughs. The views are spectacular with the flora and fauna to match. Hear about the work of the Trust in this beautiful little gem of a headland and valley.
Time: 10:30 a.m.

This walk is aimed at anyone who would like to learn about our common wildflowers and how to identify them by their flower, leaf and smell.
Our Parish Climate Change Group has organised a Spring Market to promote locally produced and/or sustainable products.
It’s a fun event to increase our awareness about what we need to do to be more environmentally friendly. In addition to stalls selling produce, there will be refreshments and food, children’s activities and educational stalls. Please come along, have some fun, do some shopping and maybe learn something new about the environment and what we can do that will not only improve life in the parish, but also on the planet.
This walk will start at the Priory Inn and go down to Devils Hole to look at the amazing natural blow hole and the coastal landscape
From here we will go up on to the headland and in to Le Mourier Valley where there is a large tree planting initiative. We will look out for the Choughs which fly around the area as part of the Birds on the Edge project and hopefully see some of the Manx Loaghton sheep. This walk will also take in some of the lanes of St Marys.

Even if you consider yourself a nature lover, this experience will open your eyes to a new way of perception… This forest bathing experience will introduce you to practices to bring you closer to the landscapes in and around Jersey and will end with a tea ceremony, and home-made cake.

Every year up to 1,300 yellow ducks, which have been numbered individually on their bottoms, are launched into the stream at Le Perquage at Sandybrook.
They ‘race’ downstream to the finishing point and the first three ducks across the line win a prize.
The event, which is generously sponsored by Romerils, includes plenty of other activities for families to enjoy along the Perquage, including charity stalls, a bouncy castle and face-painting.
Dr Helen Miles, Vice Chairman of Autism Jersey, said: “Every year the duck race is a great, fun event with lots of families coming down to take part. We are grateful to Romerils for their support.”

Join our Education Officer to learn about and sow plants for our precious pollinators.

All equipment will be provided; further information, such as meeting point and clothing advice, will be sent to attendees prior to the event.

‘People! Power! Protest!’ explores the story of protest in Jersey, from the Corn Riots of 1769 to the Black Lives Matter movement of 2020.

How much do you really know about the many amazing people that have left their mark on St Helier?
We walk past reminders of their work all the time and during this gentle stroll I will share some interesting and intriguing facts for you about just a few of them – like the diarist who records the day a cannon ball fired from Elizabeth Castle that fell down the chimney of a St Helier house where the family were sleeping? (It never went off!)
Join Alli for a stroll in and around St Catherine’s Woods.
This week we will be concentrating on the wildflowers and butterflies with an emphasis on learning to recognise a few of them.
Don’t worry, we shall not be ignoring the birds or any other aspects of wildlife!
The meadow area is still fairly boggy so please ensure you wear waterproof shoes / boots. We will also need to negotiate the stream, so a stick may be handy.

Starring James Norton, Vanessa Kirby and Peter Sarsgaard, ‘Mr Jones’ chronicles a journalist’s journey as he travels deep into the Soviet Union in the 1930s to uncover an international conspiracy. Based on real-life events.
Gareth Jones’ great great niece and nephews (Eleanor Colley, Gareth Colley and Trystan Colley) all live in Jersey and are pleased to work together with Jersey Arts Centre to screen the film in support of Ukraine, saying:
“Our great great uncle Gareth Jones, was a remarkable man. Having grown up listening to our grandmother’s stories about him around the dinner table, it was surreal to witness his life being portrayed in “Mr. Jones”.
Through Gareth’s exposure of the Holodomor (a famine orchestrated by Stalin where between 4 – 6 million Ukrainians were starved to death), the relevance of what Gareth uncovered against all the odds has never been more apparent.
“Mr Jones” is incredibly important in not only raising awareness of the tragic events in Ukraine historically, but also enabling people to have a better understanding of why their incredibly brave population are fighting today to defend their freedom, sovereignty, national identity and ultimately their democracy.”
The film will be accompanied by some short introductory remarks from Gareth Jones’ family and Advocate Christopher Scholefield.
Mr Jones is being screened with the kind permission of Signature Entertainment in aid of the Bailiff’s Ukraine Appeal.
Before visiting Jersey Arts Centre, please read our COVID-19 guidelines here.

Love history or just want to learn more about our Island’s stories? Join us for our Loving History events and step back in time to take part in living history activities.
Step back in time for a weekend of pre history demonstrations at La Hougue Bie. Experimental archaeologist Dr James Dilley and Emma Jones of AncientCraft will provide an accurate Neolithic living history display in and around the replica Neolithic Longhouse for visitors to the museum. This will be the first full living history display conducted at the Longhouse since its construction and it is the perfect setting to bring this special part of Jersey’s heritage to life.
The display will consist of Ancient Craft demonstrating a number of crafts and daily tasks that would have been familiar thousands of years ago. These will include flintknapping, fire lighting, cooking, axe making, wood working, bone and antler carving and jewellery making. Evidence from across the island indicates all these crafts and more would have been visible thousands of years ago, thus giving the rare opportunity to see these skills in action.
Some of the crafts will be open for visitors of all ages to try for themselves to give a sense of how long some seemingly simple processes would have taken. Visitors will be able to take in the sight, sounds and smells of life thousands of years ago, before being able to touch replica objects and talk to the ‘prehistoric people’ about their life.
