Something strange and delightful has been happening at Hamptonne over the winter!
Do you believe in magic? A visit to Hamptonne and La Hougue Bie may just change your mind.
Something strange and delightful has been happening there over the winter. Les P’tits Faîtchieaux, or little folk, are back and they have been busy creating a new home. In fact, they have been so busy, we think there could be a whole village!
We hope the fairies will stay for some time and we’d like them to settle in properly before being visited by your little people, so take the opportunity to visit them from the end of January.
Forty talented photographers from Jersey and Guernsey have contributed to this wonderful exhibition, which is the first to take place in our new museum space at Hamptonne.
More than 200 images, printed on banners, capture the incredibly rich biodiversity we have in the Channel Islands – from birds, insects and mammals, to wildflowers, fungi and sea life, with a focus particularly upon Jersey.

Join Jersey War Tours and visit WW2 bunkers, which are not usually open to the public. JWT will show you how Jersey was made into an impregnable fortress and help you appreciate what the Third Reich was able to create with slave labour.
The tour is also a perfect complement to understanding the history of the D-Day invasion, which took place less than 30 miles away.

The world’s largest Celtic hoard was discovered in Jersey, this exhibition explores why people might have buried it there.
In 2012 the world’s largest Celtic hoard was discovered buried in a field in Jersey. This exhibition explores what might have led people to bury a hoard of 70,000 coins and jewellery in Jersey, 2000 years ago and looks closely at some of the items found within the hoard.
Explore the time when Roman armies marched through Europe, 2000 years ago, they left behind them a trail of death and destruction which almost wiped out the culture and civilization of the Celtic people who lived there. Using scientific and archaeological research we can learn more about the people that buried the hoard, about their lives and customs. Ground-breaking research can tell us more about the moment and the place the hoard was buried. It might even challenge some long-held ideas about why hoards were buried.
We are very excited to bring you these two fantastic teachers from London!
KORANTEMA ANYIMADU

Korantema Anyimadu is a dancer from London and fell in love with African American Vernacular Jazz in 2015. She has tapped for Zadie Smith and performed at the 2012 London Olympics. Korantema was the former co-leader of the chorus line troupe, The London Starlings (formerly known as The Dinahs). More recently, Korantema began an apprenticeship with Angela Andrew and has taught at festivals including 2023’s Hamburg Jazz Fest. When she’s not dancing, Korantema is a museum curator and runs an award winning creative project called Black Hair Stories.
STEPHEN ATEMIE
Stephen is widely recognised in London for his infectious smile, laugh, and the energy he brings to any class! Stephen began an apprenticeship with Angela Andrews in 2018 to delve deeper into the roots of jazz dance, and with Ron Leslie to further explore Lindy Hop, and himself has a wealth of knowledge to share with us!
We examine the evidence of the Island’s involvement in the transatlantic slave trade, including Jersey’s Lieutenant-Governor Sir George Carteret who was a founder member of the Royal Africa Company that traded in ivory, gold and enslaved people in the 17th century; Captain François Messervy of Jersey who was killed in 1722 during an uprising on board his slave ship off the coast of Africa; and Jersey trader Josué Mauger who in 1752 advertised enslaved people for sale in Nova Scotia, Canada, where his business was based.
This exhibition takes place in the Victorian House at Jersey Museum, with its impressive mahogany staircase, because new research has shown that the house was built partly on the profits of the transatlantic slave trade. ‘Trade Roots’ explores Jersey’s historic links to slavery, from Islanders who owned mahogany plantations overseas and traded in slave-produced goods, to those who campaigned for the abolition of slavery.
Thought-provoking, and at times challenging, this exhibition exposes some uncomfortable new stories from Jersey’s past and examines the legacy and impact of transatlantic slavery on the Island’s community today.

his 20-metre long replica Longhouse was built over two years by volunteers, with oversight from Ancient Technology expert Luke Winter. Since it was officially opened in 2019, volunteers have performed day-to-day maintenance tasks using authentic techniques and tools, and act as guides, demonstrators and interpreters to explain the project to visitors. They are also continually researching, experimenting and training to acquire more Stone Age skills to share, including basket-making and flintknapping.
Every Tuesday, a member of the volunteer team lights a fire in the Longhouse using authentic techniques. This adds warmth to the building but also stops any insect infestation in the traditional straw roof. During your visit, the volunteer will also talk about the traditional methods used and the lessons learned during the build.
If speaking to a Longhouse volunteer is going to be the highlight of your trip to La Hougue Bie, please call +44 (0) 1534 853 823 before you visit to check they are confirmed for that date.

Come and share the love of plants with local botanist Tina Hull on a stroll around Grève de Lecq looking at the spring flowers.
Valentine Day Botany Walk
This walk is a mix of plant identification, botanical knowledge and folklore including how some plants have come to symbolise love in all its passion and sometimes tragedy. Short walk, some uneven/steep/muddy ground. Dress warmly as we stand still a lot.
The terrain is uneven and wet in places; you might want to wear wellies for this walk.
Not suitable for children under 16.
No problem with dogs but they may get very bored as the walk doesn’t go very far!
Meeting Point: Grève de Lecq Round Tower in the Car Park

The spectacular Dreaming Trees illuminations returns to Howard Davis Park this February!
This year’s event, showcasing scientific research about the ways in which trees can communicate with each other, will run each evening from Saturday 10 to Saturday 17 February (6pm – 9pm) and is themed around the four elements: earth, wind, water and fire.
Dreaming Trees is a free, non-ticketed event organised by the Government’s Infrastructure and Environment department and Wolf Productions.
It is sponsored by Rathbones Investment Management International, and supported by the Creative Island Partnership, which was set up to deliver some of the objectives of the Arts Strategy.

Five days of pirate fun with stories, action activities, crafts and general marauding mayhem

Litter pickers and rubbish sacks will be supplied, but please do bring your own gloves if possible. Under 18s should be accompanied by an adult.
An email will be sent to those who have signed up prior to the day to confirm it is still going ahead.
Thank you again for your interest in volunteering with The National Trust of Jersey and we look forward to welcoming you on to one of our events soon.

We are what we eat! An exhibition celebrating Jersey’s rich heritage of farming, fishing and food
Our Island identity is shaped by the landscape, our south-facing côtils, the sea that surrounds us. From our iconic Jersey Royal potatoes to our world-famous Jersey cows to our stunning shellfish, Jersey is celebrated for its food.
Step back in time to find an Island covered in apple orchards when cider was our major export, explore the future of farming in an Island with a growing population, and discover some of our local specialities like the famous ‘merveille’ or Jersey wonder.
Our new exhibition will give you plenty of food for thought!
his 20-metre long replica Longhouse was built over two years by volunteers, with oversight from Ancient Technology expert Luke Winter.

We will be holding a morning session on Tuesday 13th February at 10:30am. The event will consist of the removal of the Purple Dew plant from the coastal strips of St. Ouens Bay.
The Purple Dew Plant is an invasive and non-native plant species of house plant that grows widely across the coastal strips of St. Ouens bay. Due to the plant thriving in sandy environments, if not managed correctly the plant would otherwise blanket the grass and sandy areas of the Bay, suffocating the growth of Jersey’s rich and diverse native species that would normally thrive in this area. Purple Dew plant will also prevent some insects, such as solitary bees, from accessing their nesting sites.
No tools are necessary and we will be hand-pulling the plant from the sandy ground, but please do bring your own gloves if possible.
An email will be sent to those who have signed up prior to the day to confirm it is still going ahead.

See Jersey’s military heritage in a new light and help support a non-profit organisation! Evening tours of bunkers offer an unforgettable atmosphere when exploring. We will visit sites not open to the public and places not visited by commercial tours. Become a temporary team member and see how Jersey became an impregnable fortress!
You are invited on Wednesday 14th February at 7.30pm to an Ash Wednesday Holy Communion Service with imposition of ashes.
This is a quiet reflective service of communion with the marking of ashes on the forehead to mark the first day of Lent, a time of reflection and penitence leading up to Easter Day.
The service will be followed by refreshments.
The service will be in-person in church, and on Facebook live.
Five days of pirate fun with stories, action activities, crafts and general marauding mayhem
Ahoy there me hearties! Join in for five days of pirate fun with stories, action activities, crafts and general marauding mayhem. This fantastic event has something to entertain everyone. So dig out your eye patches, parrots and Jolly Rogers and become a pirate for the day.
Our pirates (Griffin Historical) provide exciting events for Historical Royal Palaces and English Heritage – but the Maritime Museum here in Jersey is their favourite place to perform!
Help us conserve the diverse habitats across the Island. Kindly sponsored by Jersey Electricity.

“He reaches out a hand for mine, his fingers outstretched.
I try desperately to look ahead, but, instead, I turn the other way.”
A grieving daughter. A remorseless mother. A vengeful brother.
When Electra’s father is murdered by her mother, her world changes irrevocably.
Ten years on, bound by grief and unwilling to forgive, Electra surrenders to an all-consuming desire for revenge that propels her towards a bloody and terrifying conclusion. Don’t miss Nick Payne’s haunting version of Sophocles’ tragic masterpiece, performed by Jersey Arts Centre youtheatre.

An out & back course, starting and finishing at the first wooden shelter along the avenue. Begin by heading towards the Radisson & Freedom Tree, then run along the bottom of the pier and back along the top. Then head towards St Aubins, but dead turn in line with the traffic lights by the Sandybrook perquage and head back to West Park for the finish in the same location as the start.
This is the perfect tune up race ahead of the JSAC Spring 10km on 14th April 2024. It will help you to set your goal time and pace. It is also a great in-between distance for anyone looking for their next challenge following their first 5km.
Check in at 9am.
All abilities welcome!
Free entry for club members. £5 for non-club members.

More than 200 images, printed on banners, capture the incredibly rich biodiversity we have in the Channel Islands – from birds, insects and mammals, to wildflowers, fungi and sea life, with a focus particularly upon Jersey.
his 20-metre long replica Longhouse was built over two years by volunteers, with oversight from Ancient Technology expert Luke Winter.

In a co-commission with London International Mime Festival and a co-production with New Wolsey Theatre
At No. 73 Cooper Street, Brian Baxter wishes his son wasn’t so irritating. Liam Baxter can’t sit still, he’s disruptive at school and chaotic at home. As for Liam, he just wishes someone understood him.
Three doors down, Albert keeps himself to himself, sticks to his routines. At 91, he knows what he likes and likes what he knows. But Albert misses his wife and just wishes that someone, somewhere, would have time for him.
When Liam and Albert’s paths cross, no one can fathom what on earth they have in common. But the boy and the man share more than they know, and what slowly grows is a friendship that they both need, even if the rest of the world can’t see it.
Boy on the Roof has been created through Community Conversations across the UK, gathering people’s experiences of ADHD, loneliness, aging, hearing loss, connection, and community. Presented by award-winning Vamos Theatre, the UK’s leading full-mask theatre company, it’s the story of an unlikely friendship, where acceptance, understanding and love find their way to centre stage.

This sponsored event is open to anyone willing to spin for an hour slot at Club Carrefour, St Lawrence. We hope that around 60 people will take part, led by Club Carrefour’s instructors, who give their time free of charge for the event, which is also supported by Mark Pickford Cycles.
The first event was set up to raise awareness of Jay’s illness. He had planned to take part, but he died a few weeks before it was due to happen. Since then, Jay’s family has organised an annual Spinathon as a tribute to Jay and as a fundraiser for Jersey Hospice Care.

Come join us for the second micro adventure of 2024! We will meet near Le Braye at St Ouens (exact location sent to all who click going) and begin our hike at 1pm.
I have created a new route which incorporates one section being heart shaped (ish) for us to enjoy as we all love adventuring! Afterwards we can head to Le Braye for a drink
The full route is 9km long but with its unique shape, there are options to leave after either 2km or 7km so if you don’t feel up to the whole 9km you can pick a shorter route. As always, everyone of all fitness abilities are welcome and dogs are welcome too! We go at the pace of the slowest (usually my dog!) and enjoy a leisurely pace in order to chat, take photos and snack.
Please wear warm clothes and bring a drink/some snacks.
Looking forward to meeting you all and completing our next microadventure
According to The Old Farmers’ Almanac the full moon in February was dubbed the “Snow Moon” because of the heavy snow that would fall at this time of year.
This full moon is also known as the Hungry Moon or Month of the Bony Moon (by the Cherokee), because hunting was difficult during the harsh winter conditions and resulted in an acute shortage of food.
**** Moonrise 17.41 Sunset 17.42
We’re back! Did any of you take the opportunity to howl at the January ‘Wolf’ Moon…
Once again we shall be pointing the telescope and binoculars skyward to explore a different world. Jupiter and Saturn were very clear at the end of 2023 … will that still be the case this February 2024?
Obviously we are hoping for a clear sky and light winds!
Please meet us at the benches above Long Beach car park, Grouville, from 17.00 onwards. If you have binoculars and a folding chair please bring them along.
Warm clothing, a blanket and a hot drink could be useful too!
For the swimmers …high tide is at 18.58 and a massive 10.2m
For the hungry … Fish and Chips are available in the village from 17.00. A very nice treat!
To give us an idea of numbers, please let us know on the FB Event, Messenger or Email if you intend to come along.
We hope you can join us for what is becoming a very popular social event.
Music will be provided by the Caesarian Ceilidh Band. Tickets include a single course buffet and the bar will be open for the duration of the event and will accept cash or card.

It might even challenge some long-held ideas about why hoards were buried.
his 20-metre long replica Longhouse was built over two years by volunteers, with oversight from Ancient Technology expert Luke Winter.
